We had a great time, Dennis. Thanks for the invite. I wish we had been able to spend more time together, but you were busy and that's great.
The respect shown the veterans by the hosts, participants, volunteers, and even the visitors was truly heartwarming. In fact, I think there were several swarms of gnats flying around RBD along with all the war birds. Mix in the music, weapon demonstrations, uniforms of the day, and of course the static displays and flying demonstrations, and it was about as close to a time warp as I can imagine. Top it off with a crawl through Texas Raiders and it's easy to understand why the men and women of that era and effort are rightly known as "the Greatest Generation". The sacrifice, expenditure of treasure, and industrial output was staggering. And to think that we did it all in 45 months, or so, shows we have forgotten how to fight and win wars and convert former enemies into allies.
Can you imagine building 276,000 airplanes in less than four years??? And that's just planes!!!
