AH, dat explains why I never found ya in Missouri.
I knew I couldn't make Winterset by the start time so I just took off down I-35 to Toot Toot.
Got there about 11:00 ish.
Filled up, put 14.3 in a 15 gallon tank, Oops, that was close.
Run into some Missouri riders and we talked for awhile, 12 noon came and went, so I rode up to the Burger Shack, (fast food), got a menu item, ate slowly, watched the highway in front and the parking lot at Toot Toot.
Finished eating, drove through the lot at Toot toot, didn't see any familiar bikes, so I headed North, well actually EAST and then North on 65. Drove by the in-laws old place in Mercer, MO. Those people sure haven't kept that place up. If grandpa is watching from up above, he has to be doing the mad rolls like a alligator does when he is trying to get loose.
I never saw any rain going down, saw some wet pavement a couple of times. Going back North, I watched the skies turn BLACK, then lightened up and it got a little steamy. Temp on the Chevy Trike said it was in the mid to high 80's.
Got home, run through the car wash and got the scum off, came home put the old girl away, said 'aw crap', I forgot to fill it up.
Backed out, went up to the Quik Trip and topped her off. On the trip home from Missouri, I got 18 mpg. Not bad for that big old 390 cubic inch 350 at birth engine.
I keep track of mileage on things I do to that big girl. Turned up 59,000 miles on that engine since I built it the last time. Still has enough guts to lift the front wheel off the ground from a dead idle. It is hard on fork seals and it bends fork legs some.
Oh yeah, I did play with a Mustang on the way home. He passed me doing about 90 per coming up on Hwy 34. He looked in his mirror and I wasn't very far back. He jumped on the throttle, I left mine alone, (something told me to say cool in my ear) as we rounded a corner we met none other than the IHP. He did a 'U' turn in front of me, red/blues blaring and took off after the Mustang in his big ole Hemi Charger. Never caught the Tang, as he pulled into Lucas, IA and parked. Trooper blew right on by, and headed North. I came on along behind just a watching, staying with the spped limit. Met the Trooper coming back and waved as we met. Don't know if he ever found the Mustang or not.
I'm sorry, but I laughed at the IHP guy all the rest of the way home. He must of been a Rookie, cause the Mustang was setting pretty much right out in plain site, and he never made a visual of him.
