Hi All-
Since I got this 2000 IS I have said that it didn't shift as smooth as my 99 IS. After looking for "parts" that might fix it I decided to look at the actual bike itself.
I noticed 2 things:
1. The brass bushing in the clutch leaver is severely worn and "disfigured". It needs to be replaced ASAP, anyone know what its part number would be and where I could source another?
2. Here's the biggie. The shift lever was parallel to the frame and looked perfectly aligned. However that left very little room for my boot on top of it and meant I had to pull my foot up excessively high to shift. So I loosened up the screw holding the leaver and moved the leaver down "one tooth" on the notched shaft. I tried two teeth but after sitting on the bike and testing I decided that was too much so I went back to one. After >500 miles on it last weekend I can say without hesitation that shifting feel MUCH better for ZERO cost. It even surprised me.
Just my observations but try it if you've ever been surprised that you missed a gear.
Again any information on the brass bushing would be much appreciated!

#2 appears to be it! Thank you!
Yes year, make and model look right.
It does not appear that the same part is used on the brake lever side.
Any thoughts about replacing other parts as preventive maintenance?
Thanks again!
Troy
EDIT: Ordered the part, made the mistake of checking the ship to billing address... Called them on the phone and they "happily" fixed MY mistake. They appear to be good people.

There is often confusion about the bushings at the clutch lever. I hope you are getting what you need.

Hey Gryphon Rider,
Thanks for the picture.. My issue is the brass busing on the top of your picture is severly scratched, worn and in need of replacement.
Why? I have no idea but it was VERY obvious when I took apart the Clutch lever to tighten the screw brushing. They are aftermarket levers and the clutch side rattled over bumps. Sounded like the front of the bike was falling off. Turned out to be the lever rattling.

I know it wasn't much $, but isn't the bushing the item that can be found cheaper for a Suzuki?

ALL metric hydraulic clutch levers use the same bushing. Suzuki sells them for $3-$4. Just go to a dealer and don't wait for mail order.

What are your symptoms when shifting? The reason I ask, is that the slave cylinder that drives the clutch can have issues. It may need to be pulled, cleaned and put some fresh fluid in.

jimmytee-
I will be changing the brushing when it arrives but re-positioning the shifter made a world of difference.
Once I change the brushing then I will be able to judge if the system has any issues.
