How do I get  the seat off?????

I used the key for the front.  I removed the rear bolt attachment.

There is a middle attachment I can't find.

Oh,  yeah,  '99 interstate.

There is no rear bolt attachment on an interstate. Turn the key, lift the front of the seat out of the latch, and pull toward the tank. The bolt you removed could be the fender attach point. I would put that back. There are no bolts for the Interstate seat. There are two hooks molded into the bottom of the seat pan, and a bracket that goes into the rear trunk mount, and the latch, that's it cooldude

Been a while since I had a stock seat on mine but my original had a strap across the middle attached on each side of the seat. As stated unlock at the front, undo the strap on both sides of the seat then lift and slide forward. There is no bolt at the back.

NOT a good plan to run WITHOUT that strap as it holds the rear of the seat to the M/C. But as to the original post-strap removal key into front of center section between side covers and turn key. Little W D 40 on the hooks when you get seat off helps the next time. RIDE SAFE.

I totally agree that it's important that the strap be in place on the OEM seat. Most people don't get that seat locked into place mid way back. It's a PITA to get it in that shoe. The only thing holding that part of the seat if it's not held by the shoe is the strap which is held in place with 12 mm nuts.  FWIW

Gotta call BS on this one if anyone is relying on that strap they need to learn to put the seat on properly. This is only my opinion but will stand by it.

I took off the strap the first time I removed the seat and never put it on again. Too much of a pain to unbolt it every time you need the seat removed. If the rear bracket and front lock make the seat solid enough to lift the bike upright from a fall, it's not going anywhere. I use the strap to remove the battery now...
