I have been interested in a crossover pipe. But on the stock set up there is no common chamber to do this. It is actually 6 individual runs. On my zx-14 I see they use balance tubes between the header pipes approx. 3/4 smaller. New idea: add balance tubes in a 45 bend to the outer 2 head pipes ( makes drilling easier ) And add tube across to connect remaining 2 head pipes. Would use the area after the double wall pipes behind covers so as not to be seen. I think it might help to balance these 6 cylinders. I like her quiet but want a boost! Thoughts?

Mark T has been doing crossovers on the systems he builds.  Go to his website, http://www.horseapple.com/, it might give you some ideas.  Just remember, if you make it so it can't be diasassembled it will be a serious pita if you have to remove the exhaust.

Actually, No. Not the case.

The 3 baffle tubes do not run continually through the OEM cans between the 2 baffles per side. The cans are void of anything but the interior wall of the cans between the baffles.

There is a common chamber, but the forward baffles are is such a position that I don't believe they'll allow a crossover tied-in forward of the rear tire on a stock exhaust system.

I know the baffles are not continuous but I think the separators are.

Oops, My mistake! Your right acat. My rememberer fails me from time-to-time. There is no "vacant" can area between the baffles in stock exhausts.

Just curious, if a cross over can be done, what advantage would you expect to get from it??

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Only thing i see is to add back pressure, which I don't think is needed. Some HD's have them and the pipes are different lengths to add some back pressure. And then again, some are for looks. A Vulcan I saw had a 'x-over' and it was for 'pollution' stuff. Alot of them cut it off and cap the x-over.

I saw Mark T's system and also the power gains. I know the baffles are not continuous but I think the separators are. Crossover reduces back pressure. But I don't want the noise of a glass pack system. This way might be the best of both for me.

what u want to do will require a lot of dyno tunning and carb work.  A crossover will quiet it down, yet again carb work.

In Response To: CROSSOVER option available (MarkT)

per a 11/91 circle track article, a same size crossover as the collector and in the case of the test was 3 1/2" provided the most torque in the 4500 to 5000 rpm range. no crossover the least torque. However no cross-over provided the best torque 3500 rpm and below although the 3 1/2" was not far behind, however in the 6000 to 6500 rpm range no cross-over made the most torque by a wide margin compared to the crossover. HP figures reacted the same also. As usual no free lunch. But, when using a crossover 1 inch smaller in this case 2 1/2" bottom rpm range was almost the same as no crossover, upper rpm range was also almost if not the same and in the midrange was only down about 5 lbs-ft. The 3 1/2" made 18 lbs-ft over no cross over. HP again follow the same pattern. Their testing also showed that the crossovers also leaned out the air/fuel ratio from 2 1/2" 13.0 to 13.5, 3" - 13.6 and the 3 1/2" - 13.4.
So to see a difference go one inch smaller than the collector and it looks like a re-jet on the mains would be in order or a Dial-A-Jet.

Here is my crossover.

What it does is scavenge the exhaust from the other tube.

This one is like 5 or 6 years old now.
