1998 Valk STD 103,000 miles
I am hearing a metallic rattle from the right side exhaust.
Sound like the chrome cover is loose.
Have checked and tightened all bolts and it went away for an hour maybe.
Anyone have any ideas on what this is and how to fix.
With bike off and coasting the rattle is still there.

Thanks for your help.

Do you have chrome swing arm covers? If so check those I had one that the double back tape was letting go and it rattled and I thought it was from exhaust.

The rattle might be caused by the metal covers where the exhaust pipes transition to the muffler. This are down by your feet and are items 1 & 2 on the fische. Toward the back of the chrome pieces are little rubber pieces that fit into tabs where the chrome covers meet. The front is held on by a screw down toward the bottom. The foot peg mounting plate has to come off to get to them. The rubber pieces are items #5 on the fische and two are required on each side. Very inexpensive, less than $1.50 each. When the pipes are cool, try hitting the rear of the covers to see if you hear them clang.

If all else fails, the inner piece in the muffler can break loose and rattle around in the muffler can.

It is a baffle plate.

Sounds like you need a custom pipe build.  I know a guy who can do that...
