I replaced my timming belts at 100,000 miles.  Both tensioners had a small amount of play in them.
Plus they sounded like there was no grease in them.    So I replaced them with tensioners from
another engine I had that only had 25,000 miles on them.
After reading Highbinders post about the tensioners I decided to rebuild the old ones.

The backing plate is 3/16" thick.  The hole is 14mm.  Half of the hole  has an 82deg. taper.  (see pic)
The bearing is a Gates T-42015.  It has a 10mm hole in the center.
The bolt I found is a 10mm Socket head Hardened bolt with an 82deg. taper.

I did not want to drill the hole in the bearing out to 14mm.

The bearing is flat on the back side.  So when the bolt is tightened down it centers itself in the hole.
Since they both have the same taper.

I used a lock washer and lock nut.
Does anyone see any problems with this set up?

I don't know if it was a bad tensioner or I held my mouth wrong when I installed it...but I had a brand new tensioner (Gates) start making noise on me right from the get go.  I hoped it would go away but it didn't.  Replaced it with another one and all was (is) good.  The replacement was MUCH easier after the modification.  Cheesy
