I forget what thread  was talking about gas mileage and someone posted some calculations about fuel consumption at 60 mph and quantities fuel usage of some 4 1/2 ounces per minute.....I was replacing the petcock diaphram in my I/S this morning and decided to check the max flow rate of the main and reserve ports in the valve.  Flow right out of the port that goes to the carbs with manual vac applied to the petcock port and about 3-4 gallons in the tank......was right at 100 ounces per minute.  5 seconds gave 8 ounces and a retest of 6 seconds gave 10 ounces, equaling about 96-100 ounces per minute.  What does this have to do with anything in the cosmos, I don't know, but with this much gravity flow capacity, does a fuel filter really have that much restriction to cause fuel starvation???

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Only if it was in backwards!  uglystupid2 Never had a problem in my Valk or mower, which is gravity feed.

Are you using a paper filter or one of those gold looking pressed metallic jobs? I run a lot of fuel and from stations in big cities as well as dinky little stations in all the Podunk Hollows of the west......probably would make sense to install some sort of protection.

Was your filter clogged when you looked at it? it is not an issue until it is more restrictive than your fuel consumption, but I can tell you that 5/16" fuel line flows more than that.
