Hi all. This new to me 97 Valk standard makes a noise every time I touch the clutch. The more I pull the clutch the louder it gets. I read here about damper rivet problem so I picked up a new damper plate and also new clutch kit from Barnett also got the slave cylinder rebuild kit just in case. I replaced the clutch and no loose rivets by the way. Front bearing was fine too. I fired it up after I was done and it was like nothing was change. I did change the rear tire and lubed the spline as it was suggested here. I'm planning to pull the slave back and change the push rode as I saw some wear on it but I doubt that is the problem. Any idea or anybody had the same problem. Any help is greatly appreciate it.

It may be as simple as lubricating the moving parts within the clutch lever, or it could be a worn bushing or clutch switch (clutch switch contacts lever). This would have been the least expensive place to look first. It's worth a shot. Hopefully some more "oldtimers" will chime in to assisst.

Sounds like grinding so first thing came to my mind was loose rivets and I was wrong. As soon as I shift to first gear it disappears. Nice and quite but after taking off it comes back every time clutch is pulled. It's coming from engine and not from clutch lever area. At the take off it stutters like it's slipping ?
Bike has 35k miles on it and had a side car most of the time by PO.

If it is a low sounding grind, it's normal. Something louder or squeeling, may need a better description of what you are hearing.

This being the case I would hazard a guess that it is indeed, the push rod or the bearing.

I'm having the same problem with my 97, it seems that others have had the same problem time to time, here is link to a recent post where the owner solved the problem.....http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,68819.0.html

according to his post he cured the problem, I thought it was a bad bearing, but after reading his posts I think he has the right cure...this will be my winter project...strange that this seems to only happen on the 97's..good luck, hope this helps..

Thank you, that definitely is my issue. The only thing his clutch was worn and new clutch pack fixed the input shaft slack but my new clutch didn't make a difference. I'm going to change the push rod and that bearing that it goes through to see what happens even though they both looked fine when I put them back.

If I remember correctly that's called the lifter pin bearing, let us know how that works out, I always thought the noise was coming from that bearing...but I was never sure because the sound traveled through the engine and was louder in a lot of areas...
