You didn't mention what the 'additive' was.. But, if the bike was run on a somewhat frequent basis then probably a couple tanks with good heavy doses of sea-foam will work.. I just recently was told by the person that got me to use sea-foam about 30 years has switched to a product called star-brite[ I think thats how you spell it] and he claims it works better than sea-foam.. This man owns the best marina in the area so he deals with fuel varnish on a big scale..

BTW I use Techron additive from time to time and doubt I'll go to StarBrite or back to Seafoam.
Texico adds Techron to their pump fuel. Wish I had it available locally.
Techron clears up pilot jets much more efficiently then SeaFoam and is a great product as regular maintenance [non stabilizing though]. IMO
