took little 100 mile run today when I got home doing a walk around and just happened to put hand on pumpkin and it was almost hot...is this a normal condition or should I investigate FURTHER? thanks.

sounds normal to me. they get hot alright.. be sure and check the oil level though

I use Amsoil synthetic in the final drive, any good syn will work. Found the rear end runs cooler with a good syn in there.

Mine runs noticeably cooler to the touch since switching to synthetic Mobil1 75w90

Usually too hot to keep a hand on...of course...I'm in Texas...pretty much all the bike is too hot to keep a hand on!

Usually too hot to keep a hand on...of course...I'm in Texas...pretty much all the bike is too hot to keep a hand on!  Or water!! Sorry Dan'l, couldn't resist.

Hell of a good knowledgeable person on the Valkyrie maintenance and repair, especially the rear end components.
