Planning an overnighter (or more) to the Panhandle. Would like to meet our North Florida contingent and see the sights.

Who's up for it?

There is no nicer scenic road in Florida than 98 along the coast.  Pine trees growing right up to the beach in certain areas.  That was our route to Panama City when Brian (Swoppie) was the Pres. and we our yearly rally in PCB.

How about a ride up on a Fri. goof off on Sat. and ride south (or north, east or west) on Sun.
Now we need some of our N. Fl. friends to chime in with good places to eat, sleep and ride.

Hey BF - This is just in the planning stages for the near future.
See if you can get ahold of your close by Valk friends and see what weekend would be a good one to go.
We would like to meet you and as many of our Northern buddies as possible while there.
Where is a decent place to stay up that way? Not a budget buster if possible.

Only weekend I cannot do it is Nov 14-15.

I would suggest a lunch at Toucan's in Mexico Beach if it fits in your schedule. I recently did this trip after work Friday rode to Perry to a nice Holiday Inn Express, then Saturday mosey'd along 98 had lunch at Toucans and Met family renting a condo along the beach about half hour past Panama City. Had to Slab it home Sunday but it was a nice ride.

Be home from Brazil on 08 November and there for the entire month. Hwy. 98 is a nice ride. But the Wildlife Management Area in Wakulla County is not where you want to ride at night.....believe me, I know from experience. Too many deer. Would also enjoy meeting you guys if you make it up this way.

If you make as far as Destin, the Village Inn Destin is pretty nice...and not too expensive this time of year (it's the off season.....snow birds are coming in now).  It's on the north side of 98 in the heart of Destin and just across the street from the harbor, AJ's, Dewey Destin's (great blackened grouper)....AND, right now for the entire month of October, the Destin Fishing Rodeo is going on with daily weigh-in's behind AJ's.

I assume it's bike friendly as I usually see a bunch of bikes there.  Saw four bikes parked outside there on the way home from the movies this afternoon.

Don't know when I can ride as I'm back to work now from after my surgery.  I work rotating shifts and I only have one Saturday and one Sunday off each month....and they're NOT together, basically, I work every weekend.  That one Sat and that one Sun are usually reserved for wife day.  I don't have any leave left anymore after using every last second of it for my surgery and recovery time.

Post when and where and I'll see when and what I can do.

Someone might want to check out the El Governor Motel in Mexico Beach.  I have been told by some that they are reasonable that time of year.  Awesome view from every room.  Only 30 mins from Panama , good luck.   I will be working an outage at the Crystal River power plant starting Nov 15 - Dec 5 so I'm out but it will be a great ride.  After going thru Apalachicola (west bound) about 5/6 miles the road Y,s take the left C30 towards Indian Pass/ Cape San blas this is old hwy 98 and stays along the coast line.  It merges back into Hwy 98 in Port St. Joe.   After you leave Franklin county and enter Gulf county on C30 you can stop at the Indian Pass raw bar for some Oysters, there are  Good places to eat from St. Marks , St. George Island, Apalachicola, Port St. Joe, Mexico Beach.

I Would be in for a Saturday ride/eat/ride with some FL members not met yet.  Cant do it THIS Saturday, but any other would probably be open.....a great lunch stop is the Donut Hole in Destin (not San Destin)

This is a good idea...the "Florida" rides are too far for me to participate unless (like you are doing) you make it a multi-day road trip.

In other words IM IN!

This is Great!   Grin I'd like to meet up w/ brother Valk riders. I went to a Gator game  Undecided earlier in the season on my Valk. Went H'way 90 most of the way. Came back H'way 26 to (old)98 most of the way home.  Great ride along the water. I did stop to check out the Gibson House in "Appcola" and it too has off season rates. An old historical hotel, a really neat place to consider if far enough into the ride for you guys. Several bikers were there when I stopped. St. George Island is 10-15 min away and they also have a old hotel refurbed but I can't remember the name but nice too. Great ride  and nice good eating all around the area. BF is right that if you get as far west as Destin always plenty of off season rates and good places to eat.
Jeff, I'll catch up with you and others from our area. Let's talk after dates are discussed. Sounds like a Fri-Sun ride? Thanks for posting! If anyone wants to contact me my cell is 850-748-5154

The only day I can ride is Friday, Nov the 7th.

If I can get a kitchen pass (doubtful...it's only one of the two days I get off each month at the same time as the wife), perhaps Sat the 8th.

Okay Panhandle guys.....pick a spot that we can meet up. You guys know the area. Don't kill us on miles if possible. We still have time to hammer out details.
Looks like the ride will be the weekend of the 8th. Keep in mind there may be folks riding from at least as far as Tampa area or farther so see if you can find a spot that would be cool to meet up and overnight for us.
BF - Just do what you can, we understand completely if you need to be with your sweetie.

The Franklin motel right across the Carrabelle river bridge is about 5/6 hours from Tampa and I think it was only 69.00
You can stop in Perry there are several places to get rooms,  or you can travel down hwy 98 to wakulla county another 50 mins from perry there is a best western there, or keep going to Carrabelle . After that is East point (nothing there) across the bridge to St. George Island a bit pricey, or across the Apalachicola bridge there you have several options.  The Gibson Inn,  the Combs house inn bed and breakfast, the Rancho inn, and a Best Western,  then on to Port St. Joe you have MainStay suites, Port inn, Dixie Bell motel then to Mexico Beach you have the El Governor.

Good luck,

Would like to leave on Friday 11/7 and ride home on Sunday 11/9
We just have to decide where we stop and stay so the Panhandle guys can meet up with us and ride us around with them on Saturday.
We have a spare bedroom here at the house if someone wants to start out a little farther North on Friday. Same on the way home.

Who still wants to go?
Do you want to ride as far as Panama City Beach? If not...stopping where?
Panhandle guys....who is in?

I'm out.

Wife's birthday that weekend.

If I go, I would have to use that spare bedroom of yours for a little longer than a day  2funny
