I have purchased a 4 deg trigger wheel for my 98 Tourer. When I do replace the stock wheel I'll also replace the belts. My question is do I use the 4 deg or do I need the 6 deg wheel?

was for the Interstate and the 6 degree was for Tourer and Standard. I put a 6 degree on my Tourer. It took a little off the top end, but seemed to help in the low to mid range acceleration.

It doesn't make that much difference.. The trigger only adds addition base ignition timing.. The 6 degree wheel is generally thought to be used on the STD/Tour and the 4 degree wheel on the IS due to the difference in advance curve of the IS vs the STD/tour ICMs.. The 4 degree wheel will work just fine on a STD/Tour, in fact, I prefer the 4 degree wheel.. These engines do not like a lot of ignition advance and some engines will vibrate and start harder with these aftermarket wheels..So, try it, you might like it..

You will like it.It get's rid of the flat spot that I experienced upon accelleration before the trigger wheel.

You can advance the timing yourself by filing the original trigger and then installing the trigger with the filed side against the key.. The amount of filing will relate to the amount of advance your looking for.. If I remember correctly[its been a long time] 1/32" is 4 degrees.. Just make sure you file the correct side or you'll retard the timing..

Go figure I paid 39.00 for mine on ebay but I did manage to get some gap covers the guy had listed there as well that I got outbid on so I'm happy. Thaks for your input guys as soon as I get some belts I'll get the new belts and wheel installed. I hope my gas mileage increases as some has reported I'm getting around 32-38 mpg and actually ran out the other day with only 127 miles on trip...... James

OK I'm confused. As a very rescent owner of a Valk. I just returned from 9 days on Bike. In my travels a fellow Valkyrie owner, told me he had one of these trigger wheels installed with some sucsess.Honestly didn't know much about em. Have 98/tourer heard 6 and heard use 4? Is the main advantage low end omph or Milage Improvment? Or both. If so I'm Interested. Got great milage on trip 43-44. Two upand Loaded down. I'll admit I'm usally in the slow lane. I don't want to mess a good thing. But If it'll Improve performance.

My wife and I just rode to Marlinton WV. from Il. on an I/S and took two lanes all the way out (40 mpg) took interstate all the way home (35 mpg) ran the speed limit on both. cruise locked on 85 I got (32 mpg) coming home from the Mile. A lot depends on the wrist action.

Just put a 4 degree on my IS and am very happy. It has given the old girl a bit more get up and go right through into the upper RPM's. I'm pulling hills in 5th with out much effort that I would lug up before or would have to shift to 4th. I bought mine off a wing site. As was mentioned as well Jeff K has a write up on the TW file deal. The link for the wing site is below. http://www.wingstuff.com/pgroup_detail/20358_GL1500_Gold_Wing_Valkyrie_Timing_Advance_Trigger

How many miles are on your bike? Honda says to "check" the belts at 100K. If you have less than 50K on the bike, don't waste your money on 2 belts ($60). Just reset idler pulley tension. You'll be good to go for several more years. I replaced mine at 92K and the originals were fine.

If you got that kind of mileage 2 up & loaded. I'd say leave it alone & don't let no one mess with it unless you know them personally.
