Hey, gang...

I volunteered a long while back to lead a ride out to the Wildcatter Steakhouse in Graham.  HOWEVER, those punks have taken to serving steak only during dinner hours, and I don't fancy riding all the way back from Graham at 8 o'clock at night in winter temperatures.  So, I'm going to think steak-ish thoughts again in the warmer months.

But I can't wait until summer to ride, let alone to eat, so I decided that I'd find something else in the vicinity that was fit for lunch.  I've turned up a place called Mary's in Strawn, TX that looks to fit the bill.

So, how does this work?  Do I pick a date?  Do we have an "official" VRCC ride date open?  If I get to pick a date I'd choose Sat. Feb 28.

I'll meet up with anyone who cares to do so at Al Lamb's for a nice, visible "official" kick-off to the ride, say KSU at 8:30, but we can have a second staging location on the western side of town for the convenience of those who live out that way.  I'll take suggestions, or I'll pick one arbitrarily if I don't hear anything.

So, I wanted to bump this thread and see if we've got any takers for Saturday.  If this entices you, the route should get us just out of the metromess on the west side, then wind north and west on some nice roads, working our way south down the east side of Possum Kingdom lake to land us in Strawn.  According to the prophets of Texas Highways magazine, Mary's (and the joint down the road, Flossie's) have the two best Chicken Fried Steaks in the state, so the eatin' should be as good as the riding.

Strawn's not far off I-20, so those who want to slab it back after lunch could do so, but any intrepid souls who want to ride on could work their way back in a southerly loop.

Let me know if there's some interest ,or propose an alternate date if this sounds like fun but you can't make it this Saturday.

Great  that you want to lead a ride.
Here are some tips.
I am seldom on the forum, and so are many others so many will not be aware of your offer.
Email Rainmaker and ask him to send out an email with some of the details of your ride.
That will reach everybody.
Once Rainmaker sends the email out, you have committed to be at the starting point.
In general few will commit till the night before, and some will just show up at the starting point.
Second you can post it on the calender, and ask for a reply / headcount.
So plan a ride you would enjoy and go have fun.
So I'll start out: I cannot commit at this time. But by Friday I might be in sore need of an escape.

If it's this Saturday, I'll miss as we're heading the wrong direction, but I'll keep my ears open in case it works for another date.  As for Graham, you might think about combining it with their fourth Monday trade days. Haven't been, but have heard it's interesting.

Mary's really is as good as folks say - IMO! You could always do a "preride" Saturday and do it again later? Thanks for stepping up. Hey to Rose. -Jeff

Tnx for replying, guys.  It's just as well, as it turns out I've got a friend-of-the-family funeral I will be attending.

I'll try to schedule this for another day, and promote it through the calendar and an e-mail blast.  Stay tuned for a future CFS ride out by Possum Kingdom.

Cheers!

Sorry to hear about the reason for the postponement, but look forward to riding with you again.
