....well....it,s "finally" summer up here in the woods.....you know...sunshine...temps in the mid 80,s....humidity that makes you sweat just thiking about doing something....well.....sometimes....one thing I like about living up here is the fact that compared to where I used to live...the humidity most  of the time is non-existent.....

......Chili changed posistions at work a few weeks back....no more brutal 12 hour swing shifts anymore....now she goes in at 6 am and gets out at 2 in the afternoon...and gets her weekends off.....and life is once again Good ! I gave her a big ol diamond ring a few weeks ago....and the smile still hasnt faded from her face.....I dunno what it is about wimmin and diamond rings...all I know is I could go out right now and spend a cool grand on some Bling for the State...and she,d help me bolt it on.....then polish it for me..  Cool

......anyway....life is going pretty good for both of us right now.....it was a beautiful day yesterday....sunny and humid around 87 degrees....Chili got home from work and got a shower and we were trying to figure out what to do for dinner....we decided that we had a hankering for some "good" mexican food....and the place for that is the Red Mesa Grille up in Traverse City.....it was around 5 in the afternoon.....and between it being the weekend and that big ol shiney thing on Chili,s finger she was just a giggling and singing....so we mounted up ....gassed up...and hit the road....another nice thing about living up here so far from civillization is that as soon as you ride out of our tiny town...you,re pretty much in the woods....not much around except the road streaching out before you and a cool breeze to enjoy it by...

......now Traverse City is about 55 miles from our place...most of that on back roads deep in the woods with the occassional cow pasture....we just hummed along enjoying life as the sun slowly set out infront of us...

....after a leisurely ride up to Traverse we turned into the parkinglot and got us a table outside....good Mexican food up here in Northern Michigan is hard to come by....so we covet this place even more...they make their own Salsa there and the food is definitely authentic....Chili opted for the special of the night....fish taco,s....and me..well...Im a guy...a creature of habit...an old dog...new tricks and all that...dontcha know...I got "my usual".....Smoked steak and bean burrito....rice and refireds on the side...and a nice lil side of guacamole....well they bring out our plates and mine is usually "big'...but this thing was massive...a regular Greyhound Bus of a burrito....we munched....chatted....and just generally enjoyed a nice laid back meal....we seem to ride alone alot these days and hang out  just the two of us...and thats alright by me...nothin like sharin the wind with yer baby....nothin like being stingy and having her smile and beautiful eyes...all to yourself...

....well....we finished up...and I did something that was a first for me.....I asked for a ...doggy bag...yep..that huge ICBM of a Burrito got the best of me...so I did what damage I could to it and put the rest in the touring bag for...future reference.. cooldude

....strolling out to the parkinglot...it was just beginning to get dark out...I reached down and turned on the blue LED,s on the State and we mounted up....the ride home was even better then our origional journey...a dark..cool night...gliding through the woods of Northern Michigan....the forrest aromas enticing us all the way home...

....we seem to be doing alot of these little trips these days...100 miles for Mexican...50 miles for a burger....but its al good...you see, as I get older, Ive been able to let go of so much petty BS that has dogged me for so many years....and just relax and explore the wind with the woman I love....

...now....if you,ll excuse me..I,ll take my leave and let the story end here...you see I can just make out the faint cries of whats left of a smokey steak and bean burrito...calling me from the depths of the fridge....Chili,s out with her girlfriends ...golfing for the day..and me..Im about to enjoy some warmed up Mexican for brunch....then go out and shine my....other baby....

.. . ....life is indeed good.. . . . .....ohhhhh yeahhhhhhhhh..  Cool

Timbr,
I understand about a long ride for a burger.  About 2 months ago, a few of us VRCC members here rode 200 miles one way for a hamburger.  Last year Laura and I went 200 miles one way for a root beer.  On that ride we picked up our M/C riding relatives along the route.  A lot of times we ride 61 miles just for a Raspberry malt.

I need a destination.  I'm not good at meandering around.

Glad summer finally arrived up there. cooldude  We can all do without the humidity.

"Eat to Ride, Ride to Eat", motto of the DFW VRCC.

We have done the 230 mile round trip to Meers Store in Oklahoma for a Meers Burger.

Yes, the BIG azz cinnamon roll made the trip.  The look on her face was priceless.  Like you had said, they were as big as yer head. laugh  She liked the pictures we took in the parking lot.  I also brought 2 jars of jam home, haven't tapped 'em yet, but will soon.

We've ridden 130 miles one way to eat at a Bob Evans, love their sausage gravy and biscuits. I think the one in Greenville SC closed and the one in Pigeon Forge closed a couple years back. If the wife starts jonesin for Bob Evans now it's at least a 5 hour trip one way  Sad

I once rode 300 miles (each way) for a cheesesteak.  I kept telling my wife one day I was going to get up and go for a cheese steak for lunch.  She just rolled her eyes...until one Saturday I left out early. Cheesy

Timberwolf,    reading about your Mexican food jaunt brings back great memories of coming out of the field at Grayling and heading up to the Frederick Inn for their Wet Burrito.   I have yet to find a burrito that compares with it for price, quality and SIZE.    First time I ever ate there was in 1988 and I consumed my Large Burrito and half of a small,  I had to be helped out of there I was so stuffed.    If my memory serves me there is a place by the VFW in d-town Grayling that has a pretty good wet burrito (Patty's?).
Hope to make it back up there next summer.   Take care.
