Yesterday, I had an old lady look right at me, and then pull out in front of me. I climbed on the brakes and hit the horn. It was then that I decided I wanted the loudest horn I could buy. I own a 2000 I/S with a horn relay already installed. After searching the archives on this forum, I am thinking about buying a Stebel, unless there is something comparable, that is even louder, that I am not aware of. Any feedback as far as mounting location and performance is GREATLY appreciated.

I like the Stebel Nautilus and the WOLO Bad Boy. Have one on two bikes, and they are equally loud.

Big BF (VRCC vender) also has dual and quad horns that will wake the dead.

I recently purchased a BMW K1200 LTE and it has the loudest stock horn I have ever heard. It even startled me the first time I had to light someone up. I am going to ebay to find a used K-horn and see if I can mount on my Dragon.

My WOLO Bad Boy is pretty loud but it has some downsides. 1) ugly as all heck and 2) cold temps or hard rain can diminish performance (imagine a kid's tricycle horn). But you can't beat the price.

Will check back in when I research my K-horn.

Just as a side, a couple of years ago I bought a set of MC horns off of a GL1800, high/low, which I was going to mount on my MC. They give more of a car sounding honk than our anemic high pitch MC horn.

Still want to mount a air horn, but that is to come later.

Big BF (VRCC vendor) also has dual and quad horns that will wake the dead.

I have the Quad setup on MGM & he has made a few blue hairs poop their pants.

I'd like to make a suggestion.

DAYLIGHT hours, run your high beam.

I damn near pulled out in front of a bike the other day.

I was turning left from the turn lane.

I was watching traffic and saw an opening.

There was a car back over a 3/4 of a block, and I figured I'd jump in front of him.

Started to go, and just happened to spot this light candle light blending in with the car.     Had he not flipped his high beam at me, I'd of had me a Lowboy Harley and rider in my right truck door.   He stopped and was hollering at me.   He stopped hollering and I asked him to use his high beam during daylight.    He wanted to know why, told him to walk away from the bike and look back at the light.     When ya get a good look, I'll flip your high beam on.   He came back and said 'Thank you' for the suggestion, got on and rode off.

Then the 3 cars behind me started honking their horns.    I just waved at them and went around the corner as the light was turning red again.

I used 1 inch by 1/8 inch aluminum flat bar cut to length, drilled and polished. I used the motor mount bolt by the alternator for my fastening point. Also if you have a Kury Tranny cover, the mounting point will still work but you will need to bend the flat bar to tuck it in at that point on the bike.

I have a 2000 IS and mounted the horns inside the two pods. I have Stebel Maguum horns in one pod and Stebel Nautilus in the other side. Made my own brackets out of scrap, remember I had to take my time to get then mounted  so that the pods could be installed. I originally wanted trumpet horns but could not find a place to mount them except under the bike which I decided against. Sound pretty good, very loud, use them now and then, and they are hidden.

Firefighter, Are you running all three horns using the same 30 amp relay. I considered keeping the horns I already have, plus the Stebel Nautilus. However, I wasn`t sure the relay could handle all three.

Been awhile , but pretty sure I used two relays, just to make sure. Can't remember the amperage required but I usually go overkill on everything. If you have more questions i will open mine up and remember.     Firefighter

The WOLO and Stebel horns need at a minimum 20 amp circuits. I don't think one 30 amp relay is going to handle multiple air horns for very long IMO.

Ya need a relay for each air horn.   I also wired 2 relays in for my BigBF Quads.

I mounted mine in the stock location with a section of 3/4" aluminum flatbar. Fits just fine.

I put a Stebel on EVERY bike I own. They've saved my arse multiple times. Gets cars out of your lane NOW.

So, you can wire two 30 amp relays, to the stock horn switch wires. Is that correct?

Yes, All the horn switch will be operating is the relays, and that has very little amperage. Firefighter

Only thing bout mounting the horn part into the slipstream is it becomes a bug scoop-literally!  crazy2 My first air horn-Wolo bad boy-I mounted to the original mounting area on the I/S-lower crash bar on the right side. Had the horn facing down. It STILL managed to pick up a LOT of trash from the road. I'm hoping the higher mounting position near the fuel selector switch eliminates road trash problems. Having just put it on this past summer-2014-we shall see. Talking bout our most recent summer in the past tense already!  uglystupid2 RIDE SAFE.

Putting it inside the radiator pod eliminates any bugs being caught in it.

What if you need to pull the pod? I removed mine at least four times in the last 5 months and find it a little challenging without worrying about a horn and wires. FWIW ???

I'd suggest finding an easy way to clean the bugs out of the horn then.

That is one reason I went with BigBF's quad horns.

However I did replace a pair of them with a pair off of a Mopar.   They are one of the louder ones in the auto and trucks.   Matched up with a pair of BigBf's they will almost blow the panties off of a stripper.   LOL.

On my Chevy Trike I have a pair of 10 & 12" Air trumpets with a little storage tank, and a compressor off of a air ride system.    So it doesn't run out of air very easy.

These air horns will wake up the dead.   Trust me.

I can remove the pods on my IS ok with the horns inside. I don't think it made it any more difficult than usual. The horns are mounted to the bike and stay on the bike when I remove the pods. Firefighter

It is no more difficult to remove the pod withe the horn mounted under it (and the wires go to the horn not the pod  uglystupid2) all kidding aside I mounted mine on the side of the radiator with one of the radiator bracket bolts one the side of the radiator I just made an L bracket out of scrap.

And may I ask why in the world would you have to remove them that much?

Interested in the BF's.  Sent him an email but hsven't heard back - of course it is the weekend!  Can anyone who have these horns answer my concerns?  Here is my email:

"Just bought a 2000 valkyrie tourer and realize I need a much louder horn.  I ran across yours on the Valkyrie Cruiser forum.

I have quite a few questions as I find your installation instructions lacking.  However before I go to the effort of sending you those questions, I would like to ask a few basic questions first:

* Do the horns affect the ground clearance?  I am concerned about dragging the horns on something.

* These horns are really  exposed to water, mud, gravel, etc .... are they manufactured to stand up to this torture?

* Do you offer a warranty.

* How do I know which Quad set to purchase?  For example, one says; " FYI: It will work with jack lift on adapter."  The other one says; "with adapter on bike."  There is also a comment;  "I design bracket to make sure that Metal lift adapter will work."

I don't have a jack yet and don't really know which one I should buy that will work with your horns.  Does the "adapter" come with the lift?  Do you attach the adapter to the bike?  Where can I buy the jack and adapter? "
