Chapter Members,

Consider this an open letter to the membership:

First I want to thank the current leaders of the chapter for all their hard work and dedication to the club. They have done a great job and we all appreciate the work.

Second I want to say that I am truely sorry that I have not been able to attend many club functions over the past two years. Lot's of good excuses, but still I am sorry.

In recent emails and posts I have read that there is some desire to make serious fundimental changes to the format and purpose of this club. I think that this is driven because of the piss poor attendence at club functions by all of us.

As the founder of the DFW VRCC chapter I would like to remind each of us that the club was founded on one basic principle, the mutual love of the Valkyrie motorcycle. We are not your typical dime a dozen motorcycle riding club. We are the DFW VRCC, dedicated to the Valkyrie. We have always welcomed riders of any bike type to ride with us, even to join the club.

I would like to suggest that before we become just another motorcycle club we should do more research, talk with the other chapters, find out what is going on with them, talk with the leaders of the national VRCC and find out how things are nationally. Let's not just give up and become another run of the mill club, dedicated to riding, but not to the Valkyrie. The Valkyrie is special and becoming more special everyday. Yes it is no longer made, that is fantastic, makes it even more special. All riders are welcome to join us and ride, but those who own the Valkyrie know just how damn special that is.

Ok I will get off my soapbox for now. I would love your input, here or via email me at jimmycurtin@msn.com if you have private thoughts to share about the club and it's future.

Once again this is no reflection on our current leaders, they have done a great job and truely care about the club.

Thanks,

Jimmy "Ten Bears" Curtin

HERE! HERE! Great post Ten Bears!
I love my Valkyrie, and I love riding with other Valkyries!
Doesn't it feel great when we ride together and everyone stares and points?

I'm not apposed to letting people that ride other bikes join (I did marry a Yamaha owner).
But damn it, this is the DFW VRCC. It needs to remain a Valkyrie lovers group.

It's nice to see you guys get fired up about that item #4.  The only changes that are being made for now are in regards to the meeting location and format.  The rest of the items (abolishing the treasurer, focus of the club, officers) require votes from the membership.

This is all pretty simple, as most things are.  If the Valkyrie owners support the Valkyrie club, then it should continue as a Valkyrie owners club.  If they don't, then the club should change to accommodate other brands / models.  Otherwise, those who like to ride in groups to interesting destinations with their friends will find other clubs and the VRCC will fade into obscurity.

As for me, I love riding a Valk and love getting the positive comments from people as they look at it.  But I also enjoy riding with people with a common interest in motorcycling.  When I joined the club, we had good group rides.   Our meetings were full and it was fun to see everyone.  The club had a high value.  We're just trying to get back to that level.
