Gas tank question...

Hey guys, I haven't been on for awhile but I have a crazy question concerning the gas tank.
I use the trip to track the milage between fillups and usually get 130-140mi per fillup. I use the reserve to tell me when I'm close.
If the power drops, I know I have to switch to reserve and a few seconds later all is good, but time to get gas.
At fillup, 4.2 - 4.3 gals fills the tank.
Friday, I hit 170 mi. Filled up the tank and hit 4.82 gals and NEVER WENT ON RESERVE!?!?!?! 
How is this possible???
Is the fuel petcock broke?? Did I magically increase the capacity of my tank???
This has NEVER happened to my 97 Tourer before.
Could something have stuck open or something.

That is a little scary when you realize you almost ran her empty. My 98 Tourer did that to me once 2 years ago. Honda list the tank capacity at 5.1 or 5.2 gallons. I rode several miles over my usual switch to reserve. When figuring my possible mpg I hit the next station just in time.
Not a problem since.
I'm guessing some crud got under the ball that blocks the reserve port and was allowing gas to flow through the reserve.

Petcock's not broke, but it is screwed!  Not reliable anymore. What a pain!
