Hi Chaps
I am having trouble getting the neutral light to come on, the gearbox does go into neutral but getting the light to come is a bit hit & miss ! gently tapping  the lever will get it to light , its a pain as of course until the light comes on every time the side stand is down it thinks its in gear and cuts out ,my gut feeling is the switch, I am hoping not a gearbox fault ,anyone had this?

When you are rolling up to a stop, put the transmission in neutral before ya stop.

Sometimes my transmission it is hard to find neutral.

I'd say, RIDE THE FAT GHURL.

How many miles/km are on it?

30000 Miles!

This might not be a good prediction, but with that few of miles, the transmission could still be a little tight.

I would try my suggestion and see if that helps.

Keep us posted Bro.

ONLY 98000+ miles on mine and I've had her a few years and at times neutral is STILL a bitch to hit. Even using R Js suggestion. Just the nature of this particular beast. For that tiny wee bit of a glitch-ride er like ya stole er and ENJOY yerself!!  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

Your side stand issue is probably the switch. See if the wires are plugged in and if you have an ohm meter, you can test the switch.

2001 I/S 89000 miles. I've had the same issue since I bought the bike in 2003 with 2500 miles on it.

Just ride.

I've had this issue for years. One of these years I'll look into it, but in the mean time, the most reliable way to illuminate the light is to get it in neutral, then gently push down on the shifter.

I'm not sure mileage has anything to do with it. I have an I/S with 97,000 that lights up the neutral light easily. I have a standard with 55,000 that is pain in the butt to get the light on. Getting neutral is no problem on either but getting the the light is.

The switch for the light is inside the engine.

The detent for neutral is likewise inside the engine.

Adapting to the peculiarities of your Valkyrie

is the better option.
