Hi

I'm in the process of installing Kuryakyn intake valances on my 98 Valkyrie. How do the spark plug boots fit in the valance? I installed them with only the wires sticking out, the boot completely covered by the valance. Is this correct?

I guess you can do what you want...  The 'Correct' way is a personal prefrence.

I installed mine with the very top of the boot, or the rubber collar, above the valance.  Seems to look more finished to me.

This advice is worth twice watcha paid for it  Wink

Thanks for the quick replies. This truly is a great forum.

I´ve installed the right hand side today and will do the other tomorrow. I´ve done quite the bit of googling and found pictores of both ways of fitting the spark plug boots and wires. I think I like mine the way I´ve mounted them now. (With only the wires passing through the valance.)

Anyone know the torque values for the intake runner bolts by heart? (The ones I´ve now replaced with new ones from Kuryakyn)

A fianl question. The installation manual says I should put a dab of grease on the front due to some clip. I don´t see any clip. Is this really neccessary?

The 'dab of grease' helps to hold the clip while putting things together...  If you don't have the clip, yer Valk may be 'de-smogged', and the clip was removed with the rest of the plumbing.

Sorry, can't help with the torque values...

If you have a manual, that is one of your best resources.
Without looking at mine, I want to say 20 foot pounds on the intake bolts.

The intake manifold bolts torque is 9Nm or 6.5 lbf#

I have the manual. After posting I found the torque spec., 5nm seams a bit low though?

I'd suggest don't use a torque wrench on those, or most any other small bolts on the bike. Just pull them up snug and tight with a small wrench, then check them again after a few rides. As for the top collar of the caps, the size of the slots in the Valance were made purposely to allow them to slip that top collar in the slot. That's per the folks at Kuryakyn. I first leave the valance sitting loose over the plug wires with the caps pressed down onto the plugs. Spray the top of the cap with some alcohol and gently pull up on the plug wire. You might need to use a small screw driver to help but they usually will slip right in place. Once all the caps are exposed on top, then bolt the valance down.

A bit of advice; whenever trying to move metal against rubber/plastic....anything not as hard as the metal itself, spray it with some regular rubbing alcohol(alky). I also use it when threading wires through a  bit of insulating tubing. Makes it real slick, dries quickly and doesn't leave any residue.  cooldude
