I called about 8 places this morning, got a good price on one at a battery shop for $48.95 6 month warranty, then I found one for $89.99 with a life time warranty, then there were the stealer's at $99.99, think I'll go with the $48.

So, how does one define "lifetime" for a battery for warranty purposes? Would they say the life expectancy of the battery is 'X' number of years, and once past that time period the warranty no longer applies? Or, do they mean for as long as you own the battery? Heck, the way I hold onto things, that could mean >20 years!  2funny Grin Cheesy

The 6 month warranty indicates the confidence they have in the battery - is that really what you want in your bike when you're far, far away from home?

That's fair and probably the one I'd choose.

Hotrod I would check out what the battery is for 49 before Id buy it, Honda Direct has a battery for 89. I think I bought mine for 50 to 60  and I get them wholesale so I would really wonder what the story is. Unless you have a friend in the business then that sounds a bit cheap. Not to say you couldn't have latched on to a good deal just check it out.

I think batteries are a lot like tires.

Look at the weight.  There are differences in weight of the same batteries (and tires) of the identical size.

To me, it means less weight equals less life.  If you buy a battery that's supposed to be the same as some other identical battery, but it is 20% less weight: well if you're flying an airplane that might be a consideration but how can the difference be accounted for. Less material inside the battery. Thinner plates = less life.

Same goes for tires. Lighter tires of the same size means less rubber. Less rubber = less life.

That sounds awfully cheap. I believe what's going on is Chinese manufacturers marketing their own brands, after contract mfg for a well known brand. Are they made to the same specs? Are the rejects actually rejected? Are there industry standards which are enforced?
China these days is the wild west of manufacturing, anything goes. You may get lucky, or not.
