Beautiful east Tennessee ( GOD'S Country )

« on: August 17, 2009, 12:25:51 PM »

Took off friday morning with 6 bikes headin' to the West Virginia mountains to hook-up with the Valkyrie Owners Association Reunion in Marlinton,WV.We took the long way so we could dig on Virginia's most curvy road Hwy.16.Only trouble we had the entire trip was my ridin' buddy Big Al got a dry wall screw in his rear tire just as we entered Hwy.16 at Hungry Mothers State Park we plugged it and rode on.

This area of West Virginia was made for motorcycling with outstanding roads no matter the direction you go.

I would like to give a special " Thank You " to Wolf and Highbinder for taking us on a beautiful ride in the mountains . Saturday's ride will rank near the top as one  my favorite rides.Picture of Wolf and Candy Girl at Snowshoe.

The road to the top of West Virginia is narrow but paved all the way and was one of the highlights of the trip.

small world, i just rode Rt 16 and the 15 MPH hairpins and took some pics at Hungry Mothers about 2 weeks ago.
that sure is a nice valley after you come down one side of the mountain and before you go up the other side.
we went up 19 to 460 then over to 16 and back to I-81.

No doubt Hwy.16 is a awesome road but the last few times we've rode it the gravel is in every turn. It takes the fun out of it when you have the notion you may get " power slammed " in the next one  Undecided
However I will say that with the group I rode across with Big Al and I pushed the " edge " about as close as possible. We have a road at home called " The Devils Triangle " its Hwy. 116 and gravel in the turns on it are a problem as well.Picture's taken on Hwy.116 a couple weeks ago .Second shot does'nt show it good but the curve is covered in gravel   Shocked

I believe we rode this Devil's Triangle last time we attended 2008 Honda Hoot in Knoxville.  There is a jail along the way and a real neet shop where locals hang out.  There are louging chairs outside and they make GREAT sandwiches.  There are some awesome twisties on this ride

Thanks for posting the pic, brings back memories.
You have the best riding in the continent in your area.
I have visited there four times and plan on going back.  We stayed at a couple of motorcycle inns: Iron Horse in Stecoah and the Two Wheel Inn in Hendersonville.
Not to mention the Skyline and Blue Ridge Parkways

This may very well have been the best motorcycle trip I have ever taken cooldude

The weather was spectacular!
The roads were amazing!
The people were wonderful!

I can't thank you all enough.

Thanks Joe for inviting me.  Thanks Wolf , Don and Tracy, and Wimp for leading the rides through some of the most beautiful countryside this land has to offer.

And a special thanks to Gordon (Lucky 13) who was nice enough to let me stay at his house Sunday night and came out and rode the Dragon with me on my way home.  Just wish he could have joined us.

This is truely what life is all about......

Next summer when I am home you will need to pass by my area and crash at my place before we ride east to DC.

Hate to have missed some good riding.

I'm planning a ride from Mi down rte 16 Oct 9, 10, 11,12. Parkersburg, WV to Marion, VA on the 10th.  Would love to hook up with Highbinder and Ladydraco if you'll be in the hood then.  I missed you (and one of your local forest rats) on my last trip down there but had such a great ride ( thanks to 3fan4life's great guide work) that I have to come back and check out more of those great roads.  Let me know if your available to ride and we'll make some plans.  Anybody else interested is welcome to tag along as well.

Good!  I'll be in touch as the date approaches with more details.  On my last ride thru your area, you where off on another ride, but I wanted to thank you for having a section of 16 resurfaced for us.  It was so fresh they hadn't taken down the signs or painted the lines yet.  Very nice of you. cooldude

It was great having Smokin Joe and his merry ole gang of bikers come over to Marlinton for the VOAI Family Reunion along with our local expert Wolf and Candy Girl.  Once the wild bunch road into town Friday night the party never ended till the wee hours of the morning.  It was great meeting the gang and sharing some good times together for sure.  Could not have asked for better weather and I know Wolf was talking to someone about  that earlier to keep it sunny and with moderate temps, nice work Wolf as Mother Nature listened real good and granted your wish.  Enough can't be said of all the great people that showed up and putting faces to nicknames.  A great week with great folks, what more can you ask for!  Thanks for coming out and sharing your time and enjoying some excellent riding in the hills.
