....the Rune board. Failures on the final drive/rear end. This sounds and looks hauntingly familiar to me (eh, me of THREE rear ends on my Valk now......). Check it out.........now some Runes are starting to have failures in the final drive ...due to dry, rusted, lacking lube parts......  For me, this is dejavu....with my "Valk world"........

Not too unusual on a Valkyrie and has been seen on other shaft drive honda bikes as well.

I believe it is the way they are treated. If you do alot of drag racing or burn outs it's going to be a problem. I have talked to gold wing mechanic and asked him how many final drives has he replaced in the 13 years he's be working on them. He said he can only think of 2 and has seen many bikes come in with over 200000 miles on them. Maybe it's the fact that the Valk has more torque as well. I have 71000 on my Interstate and my final drive is like new. I've replace a final drive that had 30000 miles on it for a friend of mine. Make sure everything is greased properly and all bolts are torqed in the proper order.
By the way I have a final drive in my garage just in case.

We go over this in a tech session at Inzane every year.

It's all in the assembly order.

Put it together right, and the type of grease (or lack of to a point), amount of abuse, etc are irrelevant.
