Today I pulled the rear wheel and drive assembly on my I/S for the annual spline lube and pulled the u-joint as well. Put the one end of the joint in the vice and locked on the other end with a vice grip and just like Jeff from Florida said, found a little sloppiness. Flexing in one direction a slight catch was felt. So I am wondering what become of the rebuilding of the joints that Free-pass posted about. Is there a source to exchange with rebuilt ones? Thanks, Jaybird.

There has been very limited success rebuilding the u-joint.

The longevity of the rebuilt u-joint has not been documented

The price differential between rebuilding and buying OEM is predicated

on the practicality of machine work and it's availability.

If you have concern regarding the availability of u-joints in the future,

a lot or riders have bought two u-joints having an extra for when

it will be needed. There was a time when they were not available.

Buying a Honda OEM replacement is the only practical option.

I replaced mine a couple years ago because I could feel a thump only under slack drive line. I now carry the old one in my saddle bag just incase I need it or someone im with needs it. Will at least get them home or to a shop. Oh, to answer your question, I would buy a new oem. Getting someone to machine your old one will be more expensive and time consuming than just ordering one. And really no one knows if they will last.

i had one of those rebuildable u-joints in my trike. lasted about 5000  miles before it blew apart. I will not trust any rebuildable joint that you have to machine the yokes to get it to work. just my experience.
