Where'd old times go?

Frisco, TX

« on: December 21, 2014, 10:49:21 AM »

My garage has two doors, each with their own openers.

One of them started 'not closing' with the remote recently.

It would start to close then immediately return to full retract.  As if something was in the way.  ???

Okay.  The safety sensors must have gotten bumped and need to be re-aligned.

Nope.  That didn't do it.  And NOW I notice the red light on one sensor flickers.  Use to be solid when nothing was in the way.

Checked all the wiring and noted they seemed to be loose at one connection.

GREAT!  Started working correctly again...  ONCE!?   Undecided

Oh well.  Ordered and received a new set of safety sensors.

Installed and started working correctly again...  and again ONCE!  Shocked

What the crap?    tickedoff

My garage door opener, of course, is not the run-of-the-mill Chamberlain or Liftmaster or such.  It happens to be an Allister Access 3000.

Parts are still available but WHAT PARTS DO I NEED? ???

Oh, and btw, this is the side my Valkyrie lives in.   Cry

I suck at electrical, but the work-once-and-quit sounds like a ground/short issue somewhere.

Sounds like the door is getting in a bind and going back down or the rollers need lubricated. Check the rollers and the supports the rollers ride in and also there should be a sensitivity adjustment on the opener it self that you can increase.

I pulled the release rope and the door goes easily up and down by hand.

If I press the wall button when the door is open and release it, the door stops at the point I release and returns to full open.
When I press AND hold the wall button until it is completely closed and stopped, it goes down and stays.

From what I read, that is a sign of 'safety sensor failure'.  That's why my first fix was to replace the safety sensors.

   Agghhh.  tickedoff

Just something I found with any of them. When is the last time you greased the track and oiled the wheels on the door. It does not take much for them to think it is in a bind.

If you take the new sensors, run a new wire to each one (just drop a wire from the head unit to the sensor - don't run the wire along the wall yet) and then and put them eye to eye (not mounted - just sitting on the floor next to each other), do they work more than once?  If yes, then you have a wiring problem.  If it doesn't work more than once and you have new wires and new sensors. then the problem is in your garage door power head - the board that controls the sensors should be replaced.

If they did work, then put one sensor on the old wire, one with the new wire and see if it still works.  If yes, then do the same on the other side.  This will isolate the wires and eliminate them as possible problems.

If none of that works, get a priest to perform an exorcism.   angel

Or, move your Valk to the other side of the garage, pull the release rope on the side not working and show your wife how easy it is to get out of the car to raise the other garage door. coolsmiley

Similar symptoms are caused by a bad remote -- one that stops acknowledging the rolling code security feature.

  Yes.  Yes.  And Yes.

Did all most of the above (see exception at end).

Me thinks it's the circuit board which, btw, prevents by-passing the safety sensors.

  'Tis ordered.

Thanks for everybodys input.

P.S.  Did not attempt a couple of the wife involved suggestions  Roll Eyes
