Im going on vacation in a few weeks to San Francisco and Im renting a Wing to ride for a day. Does anyone have ideas / experience on a nice route in that area.

You could go out towards Half Moon Bay (and up into the hills, try to find skyline blvd) or go over the Golden Gate Bridge and ride out to Napa. I was in a car, but I remember them being good. If you go the wrong places, the traffic is insane.  -Mike |

After meeting F-106, continue on down south on the PCH (U.S. Hwy 1) down to San Simeon. Unbelievable coastline scenery, you won't regret it. Nice tight curves on the road, along with slow-moving gawking tourists, so be on your toes. cross the Golden Gate bridge and go to the Muir Woods. Its just past Sausalito. The road up and down is one haripin after another and the views are out of this world Walk thru the Muir woods it will only take a couple of hours and the Giant Sequoias are just humongous I couldnt get a tree in any pic without layin on my back and even then........
1 day aint a lot of time use it well

Hwy 1, north. Cross the Golden Gate (Rest Area/Vista Point on the north end. Great photo op to document the trip) then continue north on 101 for a short distance to find the exit for Hwy 1, north. Weather is a crap shoot. Could be foggy. Could be absolutely spectacular. Ymmv,

If you roam around downtown, watch out for the Trolley car tracks criss-crossing everywhere. If wet from the evening fog or morning dew they are slicker that greased goose sh!t. Lombard Street, the twistiest street in the country, might be worth a look see. Made out of red brick. Basically an idle /vertical ride, one-way down hill. The bricks are green covered with mossy slime. If they are wet from fog or dew . . . beware (see wet Trolley tracks above).
Do Lombard street once with a photo at the bottom just so you can say: "been there - done that". sheets

Beautiful country. All of the times I have been out there have been on business and I did not get to see all the sights. Many times I would have to travel down to Santa Cruz to find a motel back back when Silicon Valley was booming. As I recall the ride from Los Gatos to Santa Crus on RT 17 was very pretty...and of course once you get to Santa Cruz it is beautiful. I have also heard that the ride from Santa Cruz down to Monterey is quite nice, but I haven't ever traveled it so I can't say for sure.

If you actually stop to ride the cable cars near Fishermans warf area look for the old short fat grey headed guy turning the cars around to back up the hill,,,,, Thats my Big Brother,, tell him you know me and he will get anyone with you on the next available cable car and make sure you get a round trip for probably FREE.
His Names is Jim Cochran (or they might know him as James) and Mine is Matt Cochran,, enjoy..
I wish I could get out of this state, I don't like it here if the family would give in I would be SO GONE and somewhere else. I stay here for My wife and kids and the good (well fair ) jobs the wife and I have.
But California does have its Pretty spots great to visit and i will leave it at that.

Make sure that you walk across the Golden Gate bridge 1.7 miles each way.  kinda fresh with the salt air blowing in from the sea. |

Im starting to understand why my recently departed buddy (Dan Stocker) loved his Valk and the gatherings and people who own Valks. He said it was one big extended family and he was right ................Damn .. I do miss him..

folks ...thanks for all the tips..I got sick my second day thee and didnt want to ride a strange bike on the cliffs with a bad headcold....the wife strongly agreed.....We caged it to Carmel on Rt1 ........and that is some beautiful country...hit 17 mile road near carmel..wife loved it..thanks for all the help .................Valkyrie riders are the nicest folks.......:-)
