I have been asked to go with a group from Texas in April to this motorcycle rally. I have a short youtube video to show you. What do you think? Would you go? I have been told that it will be a ride of a lifetime.

Can't stop looking at that video Victor, that couldn't be anything other than an exciting adventure. I've always wanted to venture deep into Mexico, but the wife and I have only flirted with the edges, like being afraid to go into deep waters. LOL Check all the necessary requirements for safety and security, go for it. If I'm correct in my assumption, you are fluent in Spanish and that's a big plus.

I would be with a group of riders so hopefully I wouldn't get myself into any trouble. I just hope I don't encounter someone that likes and wants my Valkyrie more than me. I'm not giving up my bike  to anyone, including the police.   police  I'm going to talk to the wife tonight and see if I can get a kitchen pass for the trip.   Cheesy   I hope all goes well and we all return from the trip safe and sound.

Mazatlan

One of the most powerful drug gangs is based in the Mexican state of Sinaloa, where Mazatlan is located, and Sinaloa's capital city, Culiacan, has the second-highest murder rate in the country. For Mazatlan, the State Department specifically noted in its May 6, 2010, travel advisory: “Furthermore, the city of Mazatlan has experienced a recent increase in violent crime, with more murders in the first quarter of 2010 than in all of 2009. U.S. citizens should defer unnecessary travel to Culiacan and exercise extreme caution when visiting the rest of the state.”

With all daylight travel in a large group, always staying with the group, never venturing out on your own, being careful what you eat and drink, and not having your bike break down (or getting sick) and being left behind, you would probably be fine.

Too bad, I've been in Mexico many times and had a blast.  I was routinely offered a little smoke for my head, or some blow for my nose which I declined, thanks just the same senior.  The beer is good.

Since you cannot take a pistola and 5 mags, I'm not going. (just like Maryland)

Remember to notify insurance co, and buy extra if necessary (and written proof of Mexico coverage), and a passport.

I would ask    ...
how well do I know the inviters ? ...
how many times have they made this trip ?
old long time buddies ... or casual acquaintance ...
if I were comfortable with the group ...  it's a no brainer ...
it's gonna be epic  ... we all wish we could make that trip ...
double check what eli said 'bout safety and security ... go for it !

If it were me, I'd fly to the rally, have my fun, and fly home.  Then I'd ride the Rockies or the Smokeys.  Or, if the Rockies or Smokeys aren't enough adventure, I'd sign up with a tour company and ride Machu Picchu or Chile.

Check out Tripadvisor.  I just did and the people that have gone there say it's safer than Dallas or Austin.  If in a group and you take the toll roads, which are supposed to be expensive but nice, you probably won't have any problems.  But research for yourself.  If I spoke Spanish, I would consider the ride.  That would appear to be a real necessity for the trip, not so much once you arrive.

Hey Six Guns,

So how does a guy invite himself along for this adventure?  Asking 'cause I'm interested.
