My 02 with 100000 mi. is still not running right .it is popping out the righht exhaust I have desmoged it changed the plugs an instaled new accel plug wires ,changed the o rings on the intakes an had the carbs cleaned with stock jets.The pilots are adjusted to 1 3/4 turns out.I don't know what else to do.I also synced the carbs with two vac. gages.no change.I need help .Anybody have any ideas.Art in Or.

Check the connections from the air box to the carbs...make sure they are seated around each carb and all clampe are tight ..hope this helps...rock on dennis

Art, what you report is common I am sure.

Especially if you did any modification to the exhaust system. Check to make sure there are no exhaust leaks.

I think synchronization with two vacuum gauges is iffy at best. Myself, I use six gauges that I matched and calibrated to be the same. Others have made the plastic tube filled with power steering fluid that seem to work good also.

That's where it is Art, in the synchronization.  The closer you get the six carburetors, the less popping (and I know it can be a pain) you will get. My bikes been doing it for quite some time now, and although it is very light and very little, it's still an annoyance.

I find it is worse with ethanol enriched gasoline, luckily, my corner store has non-ethanol enriched gasoline. I use premium which might also help lessen the popping (which is very light).

If out the exhaust wouldn't that be a sign of a burnt or stuck valve?

If there are no vacuum lines to fool with then its usually exhaust gaskets.. Make sure they are snugged up evenly and are not leaking..This can be a real chore..I have straightened some of these exhaust flanges.. You may be running slightly lean. The pilots are generally originally set at about 1.75 turns and these monsters seem to run better at about 2.25 turns.. The Honda spec for the sync is 1.5 in'/hg and I'm sure yours are well within that,, its very easy to get them within .5 in/hg [about a needle width]with a plain old vacuum gauge.. All that said, if the exhaust has been changed or modified then some popping will occur.. A little bit sounds kewl but too much is annoying..

I agree with patrick.  Open up the pilots to 2.25 and check your exhaust studs.  Your problem will be gone.

thanks .I'll replace the exhaust gaskets next. They are original an may be leaking.I have done some cutting on the piggys an the canisters .I would like to check the compression to see if there is any comp.leaks.Art
