I just recently had the carb.'s taken out , broke down and cleaned up and with all new O-rings and the jets cleaned up also .... I went for a ride with some friends yesterday and I noticed that while I running thru the gears to merge with traffic as soon as I eased up to around 5000 rpm's the engine started to flutter I guess maybe stalling and I could not go any faster up the rpm scale , there was no more power to give .... I called my mechanic who did the re-build and he seems to think it all in the pet-rooster mal-functioning , now before the re-bulid I was able to rev up to 6000 rpm's with not hesitation or stalling at all , so I don't think the pet-rooster was a problem IMO ..... It acclerates fine and is very smooth riding until I get up in rpm's ..... Are there any adjustments maybe for the air/gas that might need to backed out alittle , no kinked fuel lines or kinked vacum hoses ?? Any ideas would be appreciated ...  Thanks the Geezer

Does it feel as it is starved for fuel? If so it could also be a pinched line.

Hi Guys , as far as starved for fuel like when I turn off the petcock , no it does not have that symptom of running out of gas  ..... Like I had mentioned earlier, the only time I feel this loss of power , stalling feeling is at high rpm's from about 4500 creeping up to 5000 rpm's  ..... When I hit 5000 and turn the throttle there is no more going faster , for choice of words its stumbling and a loss of power .... But up to that point its running smooth and ideling smooth , no popping like before or anything ??? I'll check tomorrow again just make sure the vacume hose to the petcock is ok and look at the fuel line real close for anything ....  If it is the by chance it is that scientific wonder petcock luckily I have a spare , damn I hate having to take the tank off again ..... like I stated before. mine done the same thing. mine would run threw the gears fine till I went for an rpm higher than 5000 then it would feel like there was no more throttle to be had.  but like others have stated it could be a slight pinch in the fuel hose not allowing a full flow.

Check vent from the tank. It happened to me after removing the tank. It had a kink in it

Do you have an inline fuel filter that needs to be changed or removed?   Undecided

As always, use a mirror and flashlight to inspect your top and bottom boots of each carburetor. Any air leak at all will make your engine run like crap at higher speeds. I've even seen it foul plugs.

BonS is spot on I have seen several of the air box tubes installed incorrectly  causing an air leak and not letting the engine RPMs rev on up

Since you have a new spare petcock, that WILL NOT be the problem.

I will take a look see at all the boots to make sure their seated right ... I had told my mechanic friend that how could it be the diaphram in the petcock , when it was running fine going thru the gears up to 6000  rpm's + before I brought it in .... A couple of years ago I had got rear-ended on my bike and was blessed with 4 herniated disc's and having 4 vertebre's fused so my bike sat up for 90 days while I was mending .... This evidently caused some varnish and I had problems getting up past 4500 rpm's back then .... So with alot of Seafoam it seemed to have cleared out the high speed jets enuf to get up to 6000 + rpm's and I don't use an in-line fuel filter ... So I'll be snooping around my bike all this week , and thank you all for your responses .... Thanks the Geezer  crazy2
