CA I like your idea but I am going to modify it.   

What I did when my little tie things broke was to just use small zip ties around the cables/wires and it kinda sorta looks like they are connected to the handlebars, but they are not.  I think I will get some stainless wire and carefully tie the inside (unseen) part of the zip tie to the post
