 Hey all, Was hoping for any tips, warnings etc. as I'm now looking for a used Valk Tourer, and want to avoid buying a problem child. I enjoy riding more than I do wrenching.  All help appreciated.  Thanks.

I just bought a used Valk Standard last year.

I think as long as it runs well, you can be confident the engine is probably fine. I'd assume routine maintenance hasn't happened unless your shown records. Even then, if it was done by a Stealership, I'd assume it wasn't done correctly. My rear splines didn't look like they'd ever been serviced and my brake and clutch fluid was black when I picked my bike up. It had supposedly been bought from a dealership the year before and been completely gone through.

Just plan on doing a bunch of routine maintenance off the bat, and you should be good!

I'd plan on rebuilding the petcock if it hasn't been done as well.  I was able to haggle my price down based on the piss poor maintenance.

All the years are good. just be picky and find the best exsample you can. there is alot of 1 owner bikes out there with low mileage. do a full service when you get it and carry on from there. you will not regreat buying a valk.  cooldude

Another serious consideration in buying a used Valk these days is what aftermarket accessories it has.  Many such as chrome side covers or saddle bag rails are no longer made (the Hondaline versions) and will run $300-400 on ebay if you can even find them.   Then there's lightbars and saddlebag scuff guards, and on and on.  Granted these alone my not necessarily be a determining factor, but may make the difference in one bike or another.

My personl experiance, GET A BLACK ONE! their the fastest.! Evil      Just kidding actually I would prefer somthing bone stock, been my experiance that alot of folks really don't know as much as they think. For an inexperianced owner the less wires spliced, the fewer preformance mods. the better, my recomendation. But thats just my thoughts from the info I was given. You have come to the correct place to ask. Good Luck

SOme good advice here, let me add ..
I bought a 2000 Black I/S that had only 5500 miles, which should have told me that the bike was sitting for a long time unused. I wound up spending $950 on new head gaskets, although Im not sure if I got ripped off by the stealership. THe point is, get a bike that has been ridden enough but not too much and yes I agree with the accessory comment. THe chrome goodies can really add up..It is worth spending a tad bit more for a dressed up bike. In my experience, you will be getting the goodies for about 10 cents on the dollar.
Also, Im on my 4th upgrade as afar as bikes. Study the Standard , tourer and Interstate and get what you think you will ultimately want. Trading up to your ultimate bike waste lots of money on registration, sales tax, etc. This assumes you are comfy with any size bike

I've got a great '98 Blue/Cream Standard for sale- with windshield and hard bags.  All maintenance is up to date.  Reason I'm selling it?  it's not as fast as my '97 Red/White!
