I have a 99 Standard and would like to add some kind of light to the front so I can see the road better and others can better see me.

It looks like Honda offered the Cobra light bar on the original set up as an option but they seem to be hard to find and frankly, I don’t know if they are as good as some of the equipment available today.

Your opinions for the best options and installation challenges will be appreciated.

Thanks

Chrome NAPA running lites, mounted on the crash bar.  30 bux apiece, on a separate switch.  50 watt sealed beams. Hoser

Honda didn't offer anything.  Cobra had a light bar for the Valk, but it's now made of unobtainium and very difficult to find.  New ones are unheard of.  Used ones come up on eBay or in our classifieds from time to time.  If you find one, be prepared to open up your wallet....very wide.

I put on a light bar from Big Bike Parts on my bike.  I also added some driving lights and put them on the upper part of the engine guards.  They're also from Big Bike Parts.

The BBP light bar....

I see that they make one with leds on it now (pretty spendy)....

That light bar was one of the first things I did to my bike after I bought it (besides adding a set of Baker Air Wings).  Back then, it was a red and white standard with a Tourer windshield.

As you can see from the pics, that light bar works just fine with on a Tourer.  The windshield can be taken off and put back on with no problems at all.

Considering these.  Are they a flood beam?  2000 lumens per bulb is mighty bright and probably not DOT approved.  Any issues with getting the LEOs attention with them?  Do cagers flash their brights at you at night?

Not a fan of lightbars (persay), however the National Cycle Light Bar is a well made accessory that is much less expensive that accomplishes the same results.

I had one on my 98 and it worked superbly. Nice chrome plating, good driving lamps, and HD type turnsignals.

I did sell it to another VRCC member for $125.00 a few years back though.

Another VRCC member known as "Kickstand" has a set of generic driving lights mounted below the lower triple clamp using a pair front OEM turn signal clamps/mounts. A cost effective and unique lighting solution.

I used 55 watt Showchrome lights mounted with Kuryakyn clamps. The triangular position is better for other drivers to see and they illuminate the quite well too!

It's been a long while since I installed it, and my rememberererer isn't exactly what it used to be, but yes, I think that I had to have the adaptor for it.

These are Wagner Aircraft landing lights mounted on Rifle windshield billet clamps. The spot shells are from JCWhitney, around $25 ea, available today.  The bulbs are from ebay - look for Wagner H-7604 spots. Also wired the headlight with relays and 130/90 H4 bulb.  These light up the road CLEARLY for a measured half mile.  No overdriving these lights even at 100.

These are Drag Specialties spots with H4 bulbs, P/N 2001-0249, available now, I mounted on the light bar I made from the damaged handlebar when I took out the deer with (now) Deerslayer, mounted on wifey's Magna.  These spots are very bright, with hi-lo function, controlled by the circuit I designed, to mimic the headlight hi-lo, operate independently hi-lo, or go off.  They also include a parking light bulb below the H4 bulb.  As you know, H4 bulbs are avaialble at any auto store, not unobtainium.

Here's my circuit:
