Do you guys that drop and install engines put some oil in them and let them sit a while just to check the seals on the clutch cover gasket and rear case gasket before going to the trouble of putting it back in?

I am waiting on parts and thought it might be a good idea to put a half pint or so of oil in it to make sure I do not have any leaking anywhere before going to the trouble of putting it back in.

Why not put in the full 4 Qts? I have no experience dropping the engine on the valkyrie though.

Well, if there is a leak and I have to pull the rear case or clutch cover again, that is 4 quarts I do not have to drain back out.  I figure if there is going to be a leak it will most likely be at the bottom of the case.

If you haven't already mounted those parts/covers, if you're concerned you might give the mating surfaces a thin coat of Copper Coat.

Yep.  Got that covered.  Actually used the permatex hi torque on the surfaces.  Figure that should do it, but since the parts look like they just got shipped today and will not be here until Monday, I put some oil in it and will just let it sit.

I used to rebuild VW motors. Don't think I ever had a leak there, used a little sealant on the engine haves. I don't think anything you do would represent real world running of the engine, other than running the engine. I had made an engine stand just so I could do that.

Unless you forgot a gasket and didn't tighten down the bolts, I don't think any leak you have would be something that just retorqueing a bolt wouldn't fix.
