Found out the hard way that my tank does not have reserve. Is this a common prob.,and is there an easy fix????????

If it has the stock fuel valve, I would say it is bad. Inner seal letting the gas bypass from both feed tubes in the tank.

might want to check and make sure the selector knob was not on reserve already, things get switched around sometimes

There is no reserve tank.  Reserve is a function of the petcock.  The OEM petcock is famous for failing like this, then you rebuild it and it fails again, even worse ways........replace it with a good piece of equipment.  I put in a non vacuum Pingel and have never regretted it.  Flows plenty of gas and has never malfunctioned in 6 or 7 years
