I did mine today for the first time have been having a high speed lean condition. It's still winter here so tinkering on the bike. Getting her ready for InZane. New hoops and some maintenance. My question is why do all the posts say to remove the whole thing from the tank just to install the cover set? Other than to inspect or replace the screen on the stand pipe I see no reason. Just curious!

It's a lot easier to work on with it out of the tank. Cool

Plus if you remove it its good training for when it messes up again so you know how to replace it with a good piece of equipment.

Jeff, would I be correct to assume that you've had a problem with the OEM unit in the past?

I've never had a problem with mine. coolsmiley

Yes, first it started leaking, then I rebuilt it with a cover set.  Then it started taking a longer and longer time to switch to reserve, then the final straw, it acted like a pinched vent hose.  5 minutes at highway speed then stop wait and then 5 minutes again.

Pingel and no more troubles.

I'm not sure if my problem is the petcock or not but tank is off so I thought I'd give it a new kit I'll see if it helps. New vacuum hoses while I'm there too.
