Hey guys. Now that Lazurus has been resurrected and is running (and I do love the ride of the IS) I had a request for information and paint finishing from Savago and a couple other guys on the General Board. So, last night I had a couple beers and some time and since my wife dropped the saddlebag lid

I had to break out the equipment anyway to see what I could salvage. So, while I was at it, I decided to re-finish the trunk box. Those top flat surfaces that rain and dust just sit on always stain up and have the most paint damage. Here are some videos for those that want to follow along with how I do it when I really want to get it as perfect as possible. However.......
WARNING:
A perfect paint job could be hazardous to your mental health. If you ever get it to where you think it is nearly perfect, you could quite literally drive yourself insane trying to keep it that way.
Here is the first half of the short videos. I am having some upload problems with a couple of the other ones. As soon as they publish correctly I will post them up.
Disclaimer..... There are multiple ways to detail and multiple ways to get the same basic result. LOTS of people will have different systems and techniques and use different products and make arguments for which pad, buffer, chemical, cloth, coffee and beer are the best for detailing. I used 3m for a long time, and switched to Meguiar's simply because of the availability at pretty much every autoparts store around. Lots of other products will do the same thing.
As a teaser, here is the finished product.
