I am getting a little skip and sputter/pop on the right side. Carbs are synced. Can anybody give me an idea of what this might be? Vacuum leak? too rich? too lean? any ideas?
Update. Pulled all intake and boots on right side last night and can't find any potential vacuum issues. However, Today I pulled the exhaust tips off and the piggies have been cut off, but from the shop talk pages, that should not have created any difference. Or did it?

does it do it running at speed or just on acceleration or coasting/deceleration?

Does not do it at all during medium or hard acceleration. Does it at low rpm's mainly or when coming downhill when there is no load. Intake o-rings were just replaced when i put the bike back together, but I guess that is no guarantee that there is not a leak somewhere. Does not do it during an acceleration or increased throttle but mainly during a steady throttle situation.

Likely an air leak from somewhere. I'd get the dental mirror and flashlight out and inspect all around each carburetor rubber boot. Also make sure all the bands are tight as well. One other suspect might be a pinhole or tear in a diaphragm of a carburetor vacuum piston or vacuum port plug (since you just did a sync job). I like to check the diaphragms in sunlight where I can see through any tiny imperfection.

Can also be the vacuum lines. Tighten all the bands on the air cleaner housing down to the carbs. Check tightness on the exhaust flanges. Don't overtighten them.

Sounds like everybody is pretty much in agreement that it sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere. Well, I guess I can always tear it all back apart on the right side and just re-check everything. Thanks guys.

If you have never tightened the 18 screws holding the clamps to the six intake runners you will be surprised how loose they are. If that doesn't fix it, look closely at the caps on the non used nipples on the intakes and the three primary vacuum lines (two to center carbs and one to the petcock)

OK, went back last night and all runner and boot clamps are tight. Manifold O rings are all in good shape and they were all re-torqued to specs. Vacuum to petcock was goo. Rechecked all vacuum caps on manifold nipples when pulled manifolds. I am trying very hard to figure this out without pulling the carbs out again. Any diagnostic procedure or tool that could at least determine which cylinder it is...... assuming it is only one cylinder.

Under the circumstances you describe, the synchronization should be suspect. ***

Also go back and check all the rubber tubes that connect the carbs to the airbox. Its easy to get a couple not all the way on. Use a small mirror on a pole thingy.

Checked all of those last night. Everything was seated well.

Noted. New plugs coming this afternoon. It would be great if it was something this simple.

To think that doing a synchronization at 2000rpms is going to get the correct
results, is misplaced. Follow the directions in the manual. Continue to adjust
the idle to be at the same engine speed while doing the synchronization. The
directions in the manual are very specific. The idea that shortcuts will yield
satisfactory results is folly.
