Picked up my '00 I/S from heated, tendered storage yesterday and trailered it home. When I rode it around the neighborhood last it just didn't feel right. It's like the steering is tight and the front end is "heavy"....I haven't ridden it in a while...Michigan winters are tough. I had the bike in Colorado through a winter and didn't experience this.

I know the bike wasn't ridden or dropped during storage because the mileage was the same out as in and I checked for "storage rash" and found none. Plus, the shop it was stored at is AAAA+++. Tire pressure is close enough to spec to not cause this type of slow speed feel.

Anyone experience anything like this before?

I'm in Michigan and cold tires with normal pressure feel really low. Maybe air them up a easy thing to try.

What you describe has all the symptoms of low tire pressure.  Maybe check with a different gauge?  What were your actual pressure readings?  What do you consider to be "spec"?

Obviously you left the heavier more dense winter air in your tires.

You need to change out for the lighter spring/summer air.   Wink

You don't say what tires you have. Avon Cobras on my valk. Run 42F and 46R. Most folks are at the 40 PSI range.

Keep us informed. Nitpickingly exact pressures might enhance tire life, but I
could happily wear out a set of Avons at those pressures...

Also as suggested above use a different tire gauge to make sure the one you are using is correct.

Well, there's a lesson learned. Apparently everything came through the winter in good shape EXCEPT for my $20 air gauge. I checked the TP with a gauge off my other bike and I was running 30/32. Should be 40/46 for my Avons with one rider. Pumped them up to correct specs and handles like a dream. Go figure.....

Thanks for the advice....

I at one time had three different gauges (one on each bike but different gauges) I found out they all read different uglystupid2 so I bought one good digital gauge and just use it and have had no problems since.

I keep my tire gauge wrapped in bubble wrap in addition to the pouch it came with (in saddlebag). For vibration some, but more to cushion it against the occasional bounce.
