Just this morning I rode to work and had stopped at a local grocery store for a snack for later. As I was leaving, a guy pulled up beside me in the parking lot and said if I had a few minutes he would like to look at my bike. Well you know I took time to let him have his look. His first comment was "what possessed you to put a car engine in a bike and how much trouble was it to do?" I assured him it was a factory motorcycle engine and gave him some history on the Valk. He told me he had seen me a couple of other times riding to work and had wanted to see the bike up close. Told me I had a beautiful motorcycle and he bet it was a blast to ride. I agreed and we parted company. It's nice to know the Valk is admired ....even by those who know very little about motorcycles.

Well, mine scared a guy last week. Kit and I left our local watering hole, on the bike with full leathers and beanie, and followed this guy as he was going slow. Outta State plates. At the stop sign he motioned us around. I stopped at his window and asked 'What you looking for?' Well I guess I kinda yelled it since I had some Eminem blarring on the speakers. He looked over at us and jumped!. He leaned way over the passenger seat and pulled his hands up to his chin with big eyes! He said he was looking for the city and grabbed a map and it was just shakeing! Told him how to get to town and he said thx. I asked Kit if we scared him, and she said 'oh yes!' Then we started laughing! I've been told I'm a little odd but never scary!

It seems that we regularly get favorable comments and compliments regarding Big Mama, even from those uninformed souls who do not know exactly what she is. Biker people admire her always. We trudge on.

I get quizzed about mine all the time. Once at a red light I was sitting there and hear someone shout.."HEY! I bet you sold the farm for that bike!". I said, "no, not really, I only gave $8,500 for it". He just stared and blinked his eyes.
I was sitting inside one of my favorite dinners having breakfast a couple weeks ago when I saw a Harley dude ride up, park, walk over and start looking at the Valk. He looked, and looked, and looked, walked around it and looked some more, bent down and looked some more...and then shook his head. I just wonder what he was thinking

A friend of mine owns a cycle shop that specializes in older Harleys. He is an artist with a welding torch. I needed some welding done on my second Valkyrie (Just got my fourth, gonna keep it forever.) and trailered it about 40 miles stripped and ready for welding to him on a small snow mobile trailer that he lent me. Upon arrival at the shop he hollered across the shop at me, "How did the trailer work out for you?" There were three or four "Harley type" mechanics working between us. I answered, equally loudly: "Well that little trailer might be just fine for Schwinns and Harleys, but it's way too small for a full size motorcycle." Didn't make any new friends that day...

I take mine to the store occasionally and while making an ammo run at WalMart one afternoon, I came out to find a slightly older gentleman circling the bike smoking a cigar. I had to pause and give him some more time to take it all in before I approached and interrupted his moment. We had a nice chat, got loads of compliments and I could hear the wheels turning and gears smoking in his head.... about getting one for himself. I get compliments, or at least some long stares, most everywhere on the Valk, and even a few with my VTX.... Isn't it great.

Same thinn. I had a guy stop me when I was coming from the parking lot to work and asked where I had gotten that "done". I did a HUH? for a second, then figured out that he had never seen a bike with the correct amount of cylinders before. I had to tell him 4 times that the Valk was a production bike and that it a custom fab job.

Almost every time I go some where on her someone always asks about her. What was funny one time I had my friend Connie with me , she has ridden with me allot and heard me explain all about the Valk to people that ask. Well we were on a weekend ride and we stopped at a gas station to give the Phat Lady a drink. Pump didn't take credit cards so into the store I go to pay. When I walked out there was Connie engaged in conversation with two guys and a small boy. I stopped just outside the door of the store and stood and listened as she explained all about the bike. I was grinnin ear to ear to hear her tell all about the '97' Bumblebee. I finally walked over as the conversation was ending and goodbys were said. I looked at her and she had the biggest smile on her face. She said they asked me about the Valk. I said did ya tell em. Yes, I told them as she smiled. Any day on your Valk is the best day! Nice bike Hotrod!!!!!

My favorite pastime has become riding to the big local Harley dealer and parking right in front with all the Harleys and after going in/out of the dealership, taking a seat in one of the rockers and just watch all the Harley owners drool/inspect her and comment on her. Then I get up and walk over climb aboard and reward her with a nice long ride.

"A funny thing happened on the way to lunch" which was a few years back prior to retiring. I was on the Valk and one of the local HD boutiques isn't far from my office, so I stopped there for an item I had ordered that had come in. As I pulled in the lot, I noticed three couples standing there chatting and I just rolled in, did a sweeping 180, and backed into a slot for bikes only. As I got off I spoke to the couples "beautiful day for a ride" and promptly all six just sorta turned away from me. OK, no skin off my nose, so I walked on inside. When I entered the showroom, there was an older grizzled looking fella standing there chatting with an equally older salesman. They called me over and with a big grin on their faces nodded to the parking lot...."look who's now checking out your ride." All six of the snobs that I spoken to were now all over and under the bike, the guys shaking their heads and the women were stroking the painting and saddle and smiling. Later when I walked back out, they quickly turned away again, but this time the grizzly bear was walking with me. They all knew him by name, but got a little miffed when he commented "don't you wish Harley would build something like that?" Then he went on to say what a terrific bit of engineering the Valk was, much to the irritation of the men, but for some reason the ladies thought it was a "cool" ride. Then "Old Grizzly" asked if anyone had a nickel and I knew what was coming, I proceeded to show them the nickel trick which got Old Griz laughing and the rest just walked to their bikes and got ready to leave. He yelled at them....don't get blown off the road by a Honda now! Then let out with a big belly laugh again, followed by "I just love to piss them off once in a while. They need to learn there are other bikes in the world better than their ride."
As for comments, yes...get them all the time, from young and old alike. I love it when the really older folks stop and tell me about their experiences as young folk. Going cross-country back in the 30's & 40's, how they managed with mechanical problems, camping all the way across the nation, marvelous tales. And the more they talk about it the more excited they get and I can see the longing in their eyes for those days long past. I'm just as thrilled to stand and listen as they are to share with me. One old gent and his wife, both 91 yrs. old, told me of a trip they took together in 1931 on their Harley. What an experience that must have been.

You have to be somewhat sociable if you're a Valk driver because of all the commotion the bikes cause.

I get complements on almost every ride I take. If it is in the parking lot someone is looking at it. I love going to Wallyworld and the gas station!!! You know you have a beautiful bike when everytime you park and walk away you gotta stop and take a doubletake at it before you go. Tom

Great post Rod. Just last night i met a friend for coffee. I rode the Valk and he rode his 1600 Vulcan. Had 4 people ask me about my bike and told me how nice she looks. Carl got no compliments on his bike. He was so pissed he told me " I can't go anywere with you without your bike getting all the attention". My reply was " Thats what happens when you ride the best bike ever made" . Amen brother!

Only owning my first Valk since 4th July weekend of this year I have to say I have 2 stories in such a short time of owning her already.
The first week of riding her to work I was in town and saw this rugged ole HD rider going opposite direction as we passed and did the wave I saw him looking back at me and the bike and then I hear crunch he ran into a parked car at redlight. Now not funny I know but it sure caught his attention.
Next story is I ride with a buddy here at work he rides a HD and always ragging me about when am I gonna get a mans bike. Well one day he I and his girlfriend went for a ride and decided to stop for a bite to eat so we get done and as well were walking outside towards both bikes parked side by side he said I'll let you start your bike first so you can hear it running before I start mine. I as always was like ok. So I came back and said when are you gonna get rid of that moped and get a real bike. Well his GF thought that was funniest thing she ever heard laughing so hard she peed all on herself. Now imagine our valks next to a HD they just are so much more massive and yea his looks tiny sitting next to mine.

It seems that we regularly get favorable comments and compliments regarding Big Mama, even from those uninformed souls who do not know exactly what she is. Biker people admire her always. We trudge on. That sure is a preety blue, is that a stock color? They made one a lot like it... I sat on this one a couple of days ago... A guy from the low country has a black one with the same stripe... white? Red?... -Mike
