A couple years ago during Daytona BikeWeek Kim & I went to dinner at a little place called Natales in Astor. FL where we stay for BW. All the campgrounds, mom & pop motels etc. in the area are filled with bikers mostly from out of state. There were 4 brand new Harleys of some sort with Ohio plates pulling up just as we were getting off our bikes. Trailered down I'm sure. Kim was riding her Spirit at that time. We were the only two tables in the joint at that time. After taking our orders the waitress went out front for a smoke break or something. She comes back in asking everyone "Who owns that beautiful bike out there?". The Ohio folks perk up & say "Which one?"  Waitress says "The big red & white Valkyrie!" I raised my hand & then felt about 8 pairs of eyes burning my back. They were deflated. Grin Turns out her departed husband had a black Standard that she loved to ride on the back of.
About 30 minutes later after the place started getting busier I noticed an old timer giving my Valk the once over in the parking lot. He walks into the place and asks "Who's red & white motorcycle out front?" The Harley bunch didn't even look up from their beers, just curved their arms up over their heads & pointed to our table. Hilarious!!
Nearly $100,000 of genuine tradition & heritage  Roll Eyes  out there and all the folks want to talk about is a 10 year old 75K mile $6000 Valkyrie.

Now that is PRICELESS!  Shocked 2funny

Pic from that very day!

Before I get asked I get the double take

3 of my favorites were ....

riding side by side next to a car with windows down, the folk sin the car spouted off...

"did you see that guys Harley " ?  Other due says no that's no Harley that's one of them thar "Boss Hogs"
( he meant boss hoss I gather).

Next ...

Filling up at a Chevron ...some dude goes whistling dixie on by and stops in his tracks...backs up...takes another look ...shakes his head...then continues on whistling on by.

Next ....

Some dude next to me Hangs out of the window of his cage and Gawks !!!!! while still driving , not looking where he was going. With that  WTF  look on his face.

I had breakfast with my son this a.m., a treat in itself, the kid is so busy. Anyway, he left in his car, and I walked out of the IHOP to my I/S and start to get my helmet on, and a guy in a van rolls his window down and asks,"Hey, what IS that?" I told him, and says, That's a HONDA??" Sure is BIG, is it fast??" I says with a grin, "Boy howdy, in a big way.."

This weekend, I was putting on the radiator cover that I purchased from Mike @ Valkyrie Bling. I looked up and there was my neighbor taking a look with admiration. The interesting thing is that he moved in 2 years ago and no matter how many times I waived he never said hello. Well it turns out he has a Harley; we got to talking about the beauty of the Valk. I suggested we plan a ride together and he agreed. Just goes to show, The Fat Lady can be an ice breaker.
I hope he still talks to me after the ride.

One thing I've noticed about Valkyrie riders is that they seem to really take good care of the appearance of their motorcycles......like having PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP.    You don't see many Valks that are trashed out or even really dirty and uncared for.  I know taht I wash and wax my Valk Tourer more than any other motorcycle I've ever owned.  I like getting compliments on it.

This last Sept me and my brother (Psychotic Bovine) went to Canada to visit (Chrome) Adrian. We rode to the fall as part of the trip. Coming back we stopped at a IHOP for breakfast (or as Adrian calls it Breaky).
the parking lot was real small so we parked next to the sidewalk. In line there was Adrians Red and Black IS, My Blue/Silver Custom Tourer and my brothers Red/While Tourer. We got a table near the window. We could see the bikes just outside. You would not believe how many people stopped to look at the bikes. Some would get real close and look at the engines. You could see some mouth "what is it" or "Thats a big bike". They were looking them over real close. Not bad for bikes that have been out of production for 7 years.
On the way to Canada we stopped at the boarder to get gas. A guy comes up and says Wow a three cylinder (only saw the right side) I said there are three more on the other side. I told him what it was. He was surprised........They still got it......

Before I came home for vacation last year, my dad had my bike out at the Quaker Steak and Lube that has a motorcycle show every thursday near us, primarily HDs.  He had not washed my bike or anything, just went there to eat and look at the other bikes.  When he came out there was a note on the seat for him to see management.  When he went to management they apologized for losing his entry form and handed him a plaque for "ladies choice."

He laughed and told them he was not in the show but they still gave him the plaque.

Goes to show, the ol' girl can still attract em.

Yes, I still get some looks on my Black Beauty as well....even from the so-called American Iron crowd. And especially when I have the hand-tooled show leather mounted, really gets the oohs and aahs. During BikeToberfest last month in Daytone I had a lady chase me down and finally caught me at a stop light, all she wanted was to see if I'd pull into a parking lot so she could take some pictures. Sure....why not! Meanwhile her daughter is on the cell and going on and on about the bike, then asked if I could wait a couple minutes. Sure....why not!!  Up rides some rather scruffy looking types(I'm getting a bit nervous now) on really old Milwaukee iron, get off, walked over and spent a good fifteen minutes talking to me about it. Just for kicks I showed them the nickel trick and one guy ran over to his bike and got his camcorder so he could document it. All in all, a good time was had in a vacant parking lot in mid-town Daytona.

But, just to show you how quick you can be taken down a notch, take a close look at the painting on the fairing. When one of my grandsons saw it, he just shrugged his shoulders with hands in his pockets and flatly stated; "grandpa, your horse ain't got no butt!"  I tried to explain it was the way the horse was standing and the Indian maid was blocking the view. No dice....in his seven year old mind "my horse ain't got no butt."  Oh well!!   ???

Digger: Agree 100%  I couldn't think of taking the fat gal out unless she was sparkling.  She always gets recognition.

Mr. Schmidt:  I've been here for ten years. Every time I see your bike with that seat I have to STOP and admire.
Its is a work of art.  What's it all about?  What's the story with the seat??  I want one.  sheets

Thanks Dogg.

Since that pic I added even more flame stuff and chrome.  I now have flame mirrors and just bought the flame Baker wings to add too.

I will be home on the 12th so I plan to finish my additions for the year and get at least 1 more ride in and hopefully a new pic of her.

Winter should be fruitful for me with plenty of time to do things like 6deg trigger, 38 jets, sync carbs etc.

4 degree is better. from MY personal experience, 6 degree only hurt low end performance. 4 degree is so much better. doesnt lug at low rpm in high gears. comes out of the hole ALOT better than with the 6d wheel.
I can tell ya a cheat if you want to make a 4d wheel without spending any money.Wink

I run a 4d on my blown valk, dyna coils ( for the extra voltage) but otherwise stock ignition system.

First...Sgt. Bunny, I've always admired that paint job. It is a head turner.
Sheets....a friend built the entire set for me in payment for fixing his Valk last year. The seat shown was built on a Corbin seat pan and is too hard for my old bones so he's making a different one based on an Ultimate. The problem with the "show" seat as seen in the picture stems from the hand tooling done where your butt is parked. For him to be able to tool it, it has to be thicker and stiffer leather, resulting in a hard ride. He's a retired rodeo bull rider, born and raised in Texas on the back of a horse, so for him it's about normal. But, not the case for me. The black flamed portion is quite soft and flexible so the new one will be done with more of that and no tooling where you sit. I have no idea what he plans to do with the seat shown when he's done with my replacement. Personally, I can't handle it for more than 45 minutes without a Butt Buffer.

I only use it for that now, I use my Ultimate set-up for daily use and trips. When I get the new seat, I'll have to see what my bud wants to do about the current one. If the new one is as "purty" as this one, I'll probably only keep the new one. If you want to see some of his other handiwork, go to his site: www.carmanallen.com

He does some beautiful work.

Not long after I got my Valkyrie in '07, I rode my first Patriot Guard Mission.  As I pulled into the church parking lot for staging, I wound up parking next to a grizzled guy on a Harley who looked like he hadn't been to sleep all night.  He was still sitting on his bike as I parked beside him.  I'm not sure if it was the gleaming yellow, black, and chrome or the staccato of the 2bros 6x6s, but he slowly turned his head, looked at the massive flat six, and as I turned off the engine said, "Man, your bike is cool."
