Tonight was my first go at sync'ing my carbs and I ran into a few issues.  I have a 6 gauge setup. Few questions.  1) Do I connect the hoses that are connected to the vacuume gauge (with the buffer needle valves in line) right to the under side of the bowl (I believe that is the bowl) where I slid the black hose off (like right behind the idle adjust knob).  And 2). Once I get all 6 carbs hooked up to the 6 separate gauges, am I ready to sync? Do I have to do anything else?   Thanks in advance!

The connection ports are on the backside of the air intake tubes. The port on the bottom of the bowls are gasoline drain ports. You need to download the Honda shop manual from valkyrienorway.com. There is a procedure you need to go thru if you have the OEM gas valve and the carb that is your reference. Check out shoptalk on this forum before you start.

Good luck.

Im trying to say this kindly.  If you thought drain holes were vacuum ports are you really ready to do this unsupervised?

I would never use six gauges unless they were digital, or if calibration between them all was verified.  Still two is all you need.  Hook one to #3 that's the base reading then remove that one and attach others one by one to #3 again until you get the EXACT same reading on two separate gauges.

Then using THOSE two gauges leave one on #3 and move the other one at a time to the other intakes adjusting them to match #3

Before you start are you planning on checking for and eliminating all vacuum leaks?  There are several usual suspects, if these are acting up you cannot get an accurate reading.

Also if (as I suspect) your engine already runs fairly well and you are looking for refinement.  Then make sure you don't start making gross adjustments.  Tiny tweeks is all you should need.  If a huge adjustment seems to be needed...make sure theres no other vacuum leaks.

Its my belief that many Valkyries have had their carbs sync'd to overcome problems caused by vacuum leaks when they didn't need a carb sync at all.  I watched a friend do a few bikes with an electronic vacuum testing unit that had two hoses.  One for #3 and one to move around.  Before he would do each bike he changed the vacuum lines and caps  (if not desmogged) and probably should have checked a few other things as well.

My bike runs fine, idles perfect starts easy and has no stumbling, just pulls hard all the way to 130mph and it has 150K miles on it with not ever having the carbs sync'd.  I do however police the vacuum leak suspects quite heavily.

Brian, looking at the manual, I am totally on the wrong tubes.  I see where my mistake is.  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I ditched the mercury sticks years ago & got one of these- http://www.sierrabmwonline.com/product_info.php/twinmax-electronic-throttle-bodycarb-balancer-bmw-r1150gs-tm1-p-329

Takes a bit longer b/c you can only do one @ a time but way easier to read-IMO.

I think that if I was going to ditch the existing unit, I'd go with the 6-port unit that BonS is building.

Yep, the new digital will be the way to go.
On any analog unit the guages or colums should all be sync'ed to each other first before doing your engine.
Do this by hooking up all the gauges or columns to a single cylinder  and adjusting your gauges or columns to an equal starting point. Then disconnect and attach to the vacuum ports and do your sync off the master carb.
