Livin' the Valk, er, F6B life in Central Florida.

Brought home the new addition to the fleet today. Got a screaming deal in a new 2 place bike trailer.

Kim can't ride long distances in the heat so we had to adapt & overcome.  Cool

Any more of those screamin' deals?

Went to the Alumne plant just west of Leesburg on the recommendation of one of my good customers. Alumne builds mostly big aluminum truck beds & race trailers. They had this 2 bike trailer sitting out front 98% complete as advertisement. All they had to do was put matching rims/tires on & put the lenses in the lights. Bike trailers aren't really their thing so he sold it to me for $2650 cash. Had to jump quick! cooldude 3500# torsion bar axle & all the measurements worked out perfect for our big bikes. Ramp slides in the back under the floor. After removing the wheel chocks it makes a nice size flatbed for hauling about anything. Weighs only 600 lbs. Most all the other trailers I've seen similar to this were over $3K & a long trip away from home. This one was 3 miles from my work.  cooldude
Very pleased!

If you build or buy a trailer, 1 suggestion.

Axle:  Air bags, or Torsion bar.

NO SPRINGS, tooooooo damn much bounce on what is being carried.

My experience with aluminum trailers was the welds have a tendency to break on them.

I've had fenders break off, had the dirt guard break loose.

I currently have a fiberglass, air ride with a bed the goes up and down via a compressor on the trailer.

When I got it it was pretty expensive.    I think that is what put him out of business.   Damn sweet trailer.   Sorry, no pictures at this time.

Nice for sure!!   But wait. The F6B - don't you have air conditioning on that?   Am I dead??  Meet at the bike rack after school and don't try to run out he other way?  Take a good last look at Jer.

Not real thrilled about towing, would much rather ride to the mountains, but....
This seemed like the best way to get the bike & Kim to the mountains.  Wink
Sold the Ranger, bought an F150 & our 5 X 12 steel trailer is now for sale. It was not wide enough for 2 bikes & only has a 2000 lb leaf spring axle. Good enough for 1 big bike & general hauling duties. It would make a perfect lawn service trailer. I'm sure it will go quick like the Ranger did.  cooldude

It now has a mini spare mounted, a diamond plate aluminum floor & a motorcycle wheel chock installed. Pulls fantastic. 15" aluminum Lincoln Town Car wheels with Pirelli tires.
Anybody interested?

Nice trailer.  cooldude

I suggest upgrading the chocks to the ones that capture the front tire.  Drive in, step off, strap down. HF has some heavy duty ones for about $50 each.

Here's some more pics as it is now.

I built it back in 2000 to transport 2 ATV's drive on style. Used expanded metal for the floor to make washing off mud easy. Added the 4 x 12 aluminum diamond plate which added tremendous strength w/o a lot of weight for bike transport. Lots of tie down points.
I'm going to ask $799 but as always, cash talks.  Wink

Eddie I use these wheel chocks in the toyhauler.  I am with Gil use a chock that you drive into and get off and it will stay there while you tie it down.  They are more expensive than Harbor Freight but these have been to Colorado and Utah twice with no problems.

http://www.discountramps.com/bike-pro-wheel-chock/p/201-BIKE-WHEEL-CHOCKS/

Also these Cargo Buckles are truly the best thing since sliced bread.  I went through several other kinds that took three hands to operate and would loosen up.  These operate like seat belts, you just pull them out and then tighten them with a couple of clicks and when you want to take them off press one lever and they roll back up.

The thing I like about these straps is you do not have a tail dragging along behind ya.

Those are the same straps on my trailer.

Sorry, no picture of it at this time.

I'm going to take it and have the deck coated with a bed liner for more protection this spring.

If you decide to try the Cargo Buckles you will need the S-hook adapters if you don't want to permanently mount them to the trailer.

Been using these for about 9,000 miles.  Only issue is they rattle when empty, a bungee cord solves that.

Same chocks I use in the toy hauler, they work great.

Finally got around to mounting the Harbor Freight wheel chocks on the trailer. Also put both F6B's on the trailer to make damn sure they fit! I did some preliminary measurements & they were close so today was do or die. Lots of cussing & fussing today.  Angry  The tag bracket was knocked off by the LH footpeg on my first loading attempt & had to be relocated to the fender. That was most of the cussing!
Just. Barely. Fit.

I certainly did not over buy size wise! The tie down points look to be pretty easy to get to & are placed just right. I'll buy some new shorter tie down straps as the longest span is about 30"

Ready for the mountain trip now!  cooldude Cool

Very nice Eddie cooldude This is looking like the trip of a lifetime.
I could use a trailer to get out of the city to the "good riding" areas we frequent in Florida.

I tape the hooks on my straps so if the strap loosens it can't fall free.  Also tape off the excess strap so it doesn't flap against the bikes paint and create a rub mark.  I also found anchor points that you drill a 3/4" (I think) hole and drop the anchor point in.  Into it screws eye bolt rings that you hook to.  If you need a level deck unscrew the ring and the base has only a 1/4" rise.  For past trips I would remove the rings, load the bikes, add the rings and strap the bikes down.  I always anchor front and rear double straps to varied anchors on the trailer.
