I have a fellow rider who is right now trailering his new to him IS from Gryphon rider's area. He's talking about taking it to the local dealer to look it over and do any maintenance before he starts to ride it.

I've recommended he (we) do the work ourselves, but I'm sure he'll be in a hurry to get it ready for the road, so dealor is best option. But I want to give him some idea of what should be looked at, so some feed back will be nice.

When he signs up to the VRCC I take it he'll us his old handle, icandoitfaster.

I've warned him of possible hydro lock after the 10-14 trailering. Pull the plugs and crank the engine to clear the cylinders. One time requirement only. Normal caution on hydro lock applies.

Test petcock for functionality
Rear wheel up to u-joint service
Oil change
Brake/clutch fluid

Can't currently think of anything else. Other items can be looked at as they crop up.

I don't know the mileage yet, but it's a 2000.

Too bad he's in a hurry. There's lots to learn when you have a knowledgeable friend show you the ropes. He'll learn it the 2nd time around.

I forgot: check the date code on the tires. If it's been sitting unused and the tires are old, he might want new ones.

What he said plus look at ALL the brake pads. Has it been desmogged? RIDE SAFE.

I think the condition of items like brakes and tires is why he's wanting to take it to the dealer.

Like a lot have discovered, the dealer doesn't always do the rear drive properly, better off doing it yourself.

He has owned a GW 1500 in the past, so the bike, size and the rest isn't too new to him. He just hasn't done to much mechanical work on his own vehicle. I try to find the time to offer and help out. One reason why I keep reading this forum and try to keep the repairs fresh in my mind.

He also said his handle is going to be Paul.
