Thinking of painting my black interstate the illusion blue/silver factory paint scheme.
Is there information available on the tank, fender, side cover, trunk and saddlebag pattern with dimensions?
Thanks

Someone post a level side shot on both sides to show a painter. A nice addition is to paint the side covers like the saddlebags.

Not sure about measurements, but IIRC, there are stripe kits for at least the trunk and fairing on the microfiche. Those would give you a definitive break point.

On the other hand if one is going to the expense of a complete paint job why would he simply copy another stock paint scheme?  Go ahead and create something that is truly unique.

Truly unique paint schemes might look great to an owner, but not so much to a buyer when it comes time to sell.

I agree. When I'm looking at various bikes for sale, I usually don't give those with a custom paint job even a second look.

I like the OEM  blue/silver also.  Found this beauty last spring in OR with only 7K on it.

Way worse than a custom paint job is a poor attempt at an oem job.  Recreating the original two-tone correctly, not the easiest thing to do.

Parts of it was trunk,  fairing but bags, tank and fenders were paint. At least. The IS I painted was.

Interesting responses to my original question concerning the oem paint scheme with measurement ratios on bags fenders and fairing....just like the blue/silver above.
I guess a professional bike painter could closely approximate the design....colors are Coronado blue and twilight sliver with I think a dark blue pinstripe by Color rite.
Wonder if the dealers would have the paint scheme info.
I also believe, in general people like the oem 2 tone design paint scheme on the I/S.

You can still get the OEM pin striping.

Thank you BF. I checked it out and I believe that using a template of the pinstriping as a guide on the tins and bags, one could very closely approximate the 2 tone paint design pattern.

Everything on an I/S is paint except the pinstriping between colors...those are high-strength decals.....I know for sure because I repainted mine and had to scrape the pinstriping off.

On my 99 IS  red/black the red on the trunk lid was a decal. If it wasn't a decal it was the toughest paint on the planet as it peeled off in one piece along with the pin stripe.
