Got mine yesterday and just finished using it.  It was a very easy exercise.  The carbs were pretty much in sync (+/- a couple of ticks).  I can't imagine what a royal PITA it must be to sync them the "old" way.  Great job Bon.

Hey there Bon S,
Sending my Digi Sync back to you for the upgrade! Sync'd my carbs on the 98' and what a difference! She runs SO MUCH BETTER and my mileage has increased significantly. Won't know
how much for awhile but I will let you know.

Thanks so much,

Received my Digi Synch in the mail last week. Bon was terrific and the product was Top-Notch. As has been pointed out in an earlier post, the unit is very sleek and professional in appearance.

I couldn't wait for the weekend to come around and have time to try it out. As this was my first attempt and synching the carbs, i approached this with much apprehension. The instructions provided were very good and walked me through the appropriate steps.

With much anticipation, I had everything hooked up, turned the Digi Synch on and allowed it to calibrate itself. Once i got the "Good to Go" message I fired up the bike and waited for the readings. This is the point where a shadow of disappointment arrived. You would think that a 16 year old bike (Second Owner) would have needed some adjustment. But No! Nothing. No adjustments needed. Variant was "2" between all six carbs.

This is a testament to the build quality of our Valks. It would have been nice if i had to adjust at least one carb, if nothing else than to justify the purchase of my Digi Synch!

Again, Great product and Bon S is a quality guy.

My carbs were badly out of sync and the pilot screws were 1/2 to 3/4 turns more open as compared to the final settings achieved using the DigiSync. Haven't ridden enough to compare before & after mileage, but the exhaust no longer has the overrich smell. The improvement is remarkable.

I appreciate the feedback.  cooldude

The range of as-found sync conditions is remarkable. I too have found some Valks to be pretty darn close to perfect as well as found them to be quite out of sync. To misquote Yogi Berra "You just don't know what you don't know!"

Well since it appears you no longer need your Digi Sync so better send it onto me.  Wink

Edit: Seriously, if anyone is interested in renting out their Digi Sync to recoup some of the cost please let me know.

Bon - As I understand it, the tach feature on the V2 upgrade is generated by the vacuum pulses of the 6 carbs.  Sorry if I missed it somewhere, but does V2 detect how many carbs are in use (example a 2 or 4 carb engine), and display the correct RPM?  If not, is that a potential V3 upgrade?

edit:  I just saw the post "Pilot Screw Adjustment: DigiSync Tachometer Feature", so that answers part of my question.

V2 uses whatever channels are hooked up and ignores the unused ones. If more than one channel is active then it times them all and averages them together. So it simply doesn't matter how many carbs there are. That said, it does expect a one-carb to one-channel relationship. If there are two carbs pulling on the same intake then it will see twice as many pulses so you'll the real rpm is 1/2 the displayed value.

Just received mine. very, very, very, nice.  cooldude cooldude cooldude

question? after turning it on and it calibrates, I was getting different # kept bouncing one digit. first time center position stayed one digit off. turned off. then back on all are same now except one position to the right top row keeps going back and forth one digit. now third time all stay same at 26.
is this all the normal part of initial calibration? should it be good to go now?
thanks Bon S for a high end product.

Thanks for the kudos! The bouncing of digits is just a rounding thing. It's not showing you that it's actually computing a value of 25.4 or 25.5. One rounds down the other rounds up. The sensitivity you're seeing is a difference is 1/100 of an inch of mercury!

If you were made to watch the tenths of digits it is much more difficult to focus on what matters and that's the whole numbers. So, the movement of one or more of the digits is not unusual and doesn't indicate a problem. If a sensor is not performing correctly the calibration sequence will pick it up and refuse to go on. You can try this by attempting to calibrate it with a slight suction on any line, the calibration will fail, you'll see a message warning, and you'll have to turn off the Digi Sync to restart.

thanks, what I was thinking it was. right now all #s are steady
plus I figured atmospheric conditions would change the base #s from time to time, correct?
nice feature that it auto calibrates every time u turn it on.

Each sensor has an port that references atmospheric pressure. It also takes into account temperature, the voltage of the battery and the slight differences in the analog values of the individual sensors. The final correction that the Digi Sync does is to look at the average of all six sensors and use that value as the best value to calibrate itself to. The small +/- numbers briefly shown near the end of calibration are the final adjustments made to the raw values to pull the final values as close together as possible.

I'll take this moment to say that the sensors have a gel inside that protect the sensor from outside fumes that could cause corrosion. They should be quite sturdy and work for a long, long time. That said, they do point straight up and anything that settles out from the air may find its way into the sensors. I want every Digi Sync to outlast me, so this is the reason that the little plugs are provided. If you don't keep your Digi Sync in a storage tub or the like I'd recommend using the plugs.

I want to hear back from you CA after you've used it. I'll always remember the smile on my face after my first encounter. There's no going back!

I am not sure if I understand the RPM with less than six carbs. If I use this on my Goldwing (2 carbs) will the RPM be 1/3rd of the registar ? I need to check my project funds and get back with you . Not so happy with my mercury set .

If two cylinders are pulling on the same intake plenum/manifold then there will be two or three intake-stoke pulses per channel. I'm not certain what the outcome will be. Would you like to be the first to try? I'll expect that you'll have to divide the indicated rpm by 1/2 or 1/3 depending on the number of cylinders that are ganged. There are simply too many cylinder combos, plenums, firing orders/ and cylinder angle combinations for the software to auto-correct itself. Maybe that will be Version 3. I'm going to have to buy a lot of motorcycle and cars!

Yes there are lots of combinations. I should have made clear that my Goldwing is a 1500,sister engine to the Valk though lower performance version . So it would be 3 cylinders per carb. thats where I was thinking 1/3rd . Sorry I wasnt clear on that . But if the RPM value remains consistant I think the settings will be good .  I also have some 4 cylinder/4 carb Wings I would use it on.
Yep I am interested in one for sure .

I would think, if you compared your needle tach on the bike with the digital value on DigiSync, you would have your ratio factor for determining the actual RPM on the digital display.

You would think but I'm not so sure. If the vacuum pattern on a single channel is something like "----^-^-------^-^----" the Digi Sync might stumble when trying to figure out which peaks to grab for timing, i.e., the first two or the first and third.

Yup, I'll bring some to take home. I figure that some, like you, will want to put 'em in their saddle bags and broker them for themselves and save the shipping and the taxes. I can also ship them after InZane as well.

Excellent!!

I watched (kinda) troutdude and mitcho set up DDT's "ALI" while they were here. Rocky Honda let us borrow their digital meter to do it and I could most likely borrow it again but I like having my own stuff.

I don't mind paying my taxes but sometimes I have a hard time with what they charge to ship certain items.

Hi Bon S my Digi Sync arrived over the weekend without doubt a first class product beats all the  gauges and vacuum rods that I've purchased over the years....connected and warm up the engine found the r/h side to all be within 1 point and the l/h side range from 180-230-220 just can't seem to dial them in ( suspect the pilot jets are starting to block up ) can you offer any advise?   thanks Dave S.   cooldude

I was talking with my friend about his engine that that had the left side considerably lower than the right. He reminded me that it was about 20+ points differential between the two sides as I had been remembering 10. I adjusted his linkage in the usual way, by raising them incrementally. They do interact so it's not a one-step process.

Anyway, if your engine isn't responding to the linkage screw settings I have to wonder if your carb rack was disassembled at one time and reassembled incorrectly? It can be tricky getting the springs and stops in their correct position during reassembly. Especially if you don't take pictures along the way. Here's a good write up, with pictures, that may help with a visual inspection of your linkage.

Bon S
in one of your posts u mentioned there is some type of gel inside. should the unit be stored in some type of airtight storage and in a temp controlled environment?
what are your recommended storage requirements? are they in the instructions? I might have missed that part.
Thanks

The gel is inside the vacuum sensor and is placed there by the manufacturer of the sensor. It protects the sensor from fumes that could corrode it.

I provide small caps that fit onto each vacuum tube to seal it when not in use. They are certainly not mandatory but I'm a belt-and-suspenders kind of guy and are provided by me just to be sure that crap doesn't get into the tubes. The only reason that I'm concerned is that they point straight up and anything settling out or the air may fall into the sensors and won't ever come out.

These small caps are in the same bag as the spare vacuum caps that are included with your Digi Sync.

I've had mine for over a month now, Ver 1, and finally got around to using it.  Sweet!  Took longer to take off all the shiny chrome accessories than to sync the carbs.  15 minutes and all six were within 1 mm of reference.  Idles smoother and ran great on the trip to work this morning.  Version 1 doesn't have the tach feature, but setting on the seat with the ports matching the intakes made this the easiest thing I've ever done to the bike.  The plugs that come with the set are also easier to use than the stock ones I had.  Great product.

Awesome! Now that you're synched you can send me just the head unit and I'll update it with the latest and greatest software for free. I even pay return postage. Or, bring it to InZane and I'll do it there.

What piece exactly is the head unit? I plan on bringing mine to Inzane, but it would be smaller to just bring the one item you need rather than the whole devious.

Picture would be nice.

I also picked mine up finally from the mail house, looked through the items. I seemed to have gotten 5 short tubes with  the clamp and stoppers in them. Should there not have been 6?

Also, the battery and plug was nice. You also had what looked like a connector to a plug to draw power from the MC. All I would need to do is to wire in one of the many connectors I have for either my Battery Tender or heated jacket. Would this then not be running 12V into the Digi Sync? I'm sure you have accounted for the higher voltage, but I thought I would ask, since I don't recall reading anything about it.

Also I have a complaint too!

I'll now need to go out and buy a Valkyrie so I have a real test on how to use it. Or maybe I'll just meet up with icandoitfaster and sync his new IS.
