Ok, When I first bought the Valkyrie I soon grew tired of the skinny brake and clutch handles.  So I read on here that Goldwing 1800 handles work great if you file off a little tab that is not needed for the Valkyrie.  So years ago I did that and I loved them Gold Wing levers.  Well soon after that is when Judy and I had our little mishap and the bike went down on the right side and trashed the brake handle.  Now, buying replacement parts I found what I thought were the same handles in J&P Cycles, but they were different, but I got used to them.  Fast forward to this week, the clutch started getting a "catch" in it.  The handle didn't release smoothly all the way through.  I really didn't like it.

Tonight I removed the handle and the brass bushing that the big screw goes through was warn thin.  I compared the old Gold Wing clutch lever to the one on the bike and that bushing was much tighter.  I wanted to put that older Gold Wing handle back on, but I didn't want to have mismatched handles so I found just the right socket and a small hammer and drove that good bushing out of the old lever and then same with the worn bushing from the one in use.  The good bushing went right into the other handle and now there is no more "catch"

I know its a little thing but it just makes me happy when I can fix something for free and it actually worked.

I've removed that bushing a number of times, once I even had a new one machined to fit but a bit pricey. Before replacing the controls with HD units, I had those 1800 handles on my OEM controls, loved them.....nice and wide, easy to grab.  cooldude

I probably have the Kurry ones for the Valk now too.  I got them from J&P they are nice and wide chrome......but not as comfy as the 1800 Wing ones.  When I need new ones Ill look for some Winggers ones again.

Ill be going out for a ride soon and hopefully Ill have my slow speed control back, you cant control speed properly if the clutch is sloppy

Done, test ride was great, its like a new bike.  Funny how something as little as a brass bushing can ruin your ride by slowly wearing out so you don't really notice it for awhile.  WOW, I have my slow speed control back and smooooth shifts again.   cooldude
