Be safe Bill and enjoy the trip.  cooldude

Say "Howdy" to Hotglue and Flamingo Babe, and tell them sorry I could not go this year. Sad

I would have loved to tag along with you and Murphy. cooldude

Have fun Grumpy. I know  you'll be cruzing I-10 and running in and out of rain.  Undecided It's coming down now so be safe. If you take a break in the Pensacola area going over or coming back and want to meet up w/ some pan-handle Valk brothers maybe I can get some guys to meet for lunch at the only Cracker Barrel right on I-10. It'd be nice to meet you!  coolsmiley

Enjoy the ride, what a great adventure with friends!  I am envious, wishing you guys safe wind and as little liquid sunshine as possible. Looks like Hotglue is going to have another great turnout.
Ride safe and take it all in!  Can't wait to see all the pictures and hear all about your ride.  cooldude

cooldude You guys have a great time on this journey. The Bakers put on quite a spread out there and the gathering is just plain enjoyable, fun and a great cause.
Wasn't able to join the event this year due to the length of my summer run, hopefully Pete and I can make it again next year.
Be safe, have fun and lots of photos!

We made it here, ran through some torrential rain through some of Louisiana and all the way trough Texas. But here safe and sound.

Hate to disagree with you my brother, rain riding just plain sucks. Wink
But, sometimes you just have to do it I guess. I'm so relieved to hear they got there safe and sound after watching all that terrible weather they have been having up that way. I hope you are having a great time. Ride safe coming home y'all!

There really is a difference between riding in intermittent rain, even with occasional downpours, and all day driving monsoons (where visibility drops to near blindness).  Especially on long hauls.

Last year coming home from Inzane, I felt more like a Uboat commander than a cyclist.  I kept lifting my head over the shield to blow off the water, and the 30th time, the wind just blew the bill clear off the helmet (and no going back).  Then just to make things fun after 10 hours or so, there was a massive accident/backup on I-81N where everyone just stopped and shut off their cars/bikes and sat for a few hours (next exit miles and miles away).

They say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, but all I remember is being dog tired and waterlogged.

Glad you are safe. Last year James and I made it a 2 day trip. Day one ended in Baton Rouge, about 740 miles or so the way we routed it. We had rain most of that day. When it was done, it was just another good memory. Neither James nor I were virgins when it came to the rain. If you ride, its a guarantee some of it will be wet. Come to think of it, those are the trips I remember more, and more fondly.  uglystupid2 crazy2 Undecided

Glad you guys made it safe....and I'm jealous.  Wink  A normal rain, where you can see ahead of you, is often a bother but I usually never had a problem travelling in it. But the torential downpour with heavy black clouds I found out can be dangerous. You can't always see what's ahead unless you have radar reports.

Traveling west in the open spaces of Nebraska many, many years ago I had the scare of my life....one of them anyway. I was tooling along, soaked to the gills, and suddenly a trooper caught up with me and flagged me down. He never got out of his car, just yelled at me there was a tornado ahead and heading out way according to radio reports and we needed to head back to an overpass we just cleared. That old piece of junk I was riding never ran so good as I raced behind him, got to the overpass and used some rope to tie the bike to a pillar. We then scrambled up under the huge cement beams, hoping for the best. Just a few minutes later the funnel passed directly over us, it was like a noise from hell. Both of us sat there wide-eyed for a while afterward and suddenly the sky began to clear. In a half hour the sun was shining so I took off. A memory I'll never forget, so when it rains I watch the sky very closely.

Made it home safe and sound, but wore slap out.  We hit torrential rains on I-10 in Texas, extremely hard , driving in it was so so, but hit a cell that had lightning strikes every seconds, sat in a rest area for several hours till the worst passed, had hard rain through most of Louisiana also. GOTF was great, but Friday just as every one finished eating, a severe storm went through, over 70 mph winds driving rain and lightning.Lightning knocked the power out.  After waiting for it to let up, went back to the hotel, just in time for the power to go out there. Sat was great, but rained that eve also. I had a great time, even managed to walk away with the grand prize in the drawings. I will post a pic later, it is being transferred to a local FFL dealer.  Did some sight seeing on the way back Battleship Texas, also the Battleship Alabama and A lot more.

Ride back was great, no rain at all.  Heck of a trip, logged 2200 miles. Met some new people and made some new friends.

cooldude Glad you guys are back home! Thanks for representing our Florida group!!
Folks that think it rains hard in Florida couldn't imagine the rains and winds in LA and Texas and you all had a big un'. Followed the weather close for your trip and quietly muttered uh oh a couple of times. Nothing like dragging pegs on the superslab with zero visibility at 65 mph; right Pete!(last year)
Hey, that GOTF grand prize win is fantastic.....trip paid for!!
Hope to hear more of this venture!!

Looks good Bill, any idea how many showed up total? I've wanted to hit this gathering for as long as I've had my bike but have never been able to get away. One day....maybe!

I recognized a lot of faces in those shots. Looks like a mini-InZane.  cooldude
