Can someone provide a comparison between the Mustang and Ultimate seats?  Thanks.

They are pretty close, size and shape and firmness wise, except the Mustang is flatter and the Ultimate has a raised nose.  Also, the Ultimate Lowrider is a bit firmer than the Ult Bigboy.  And Ultimate makes different seats for Interstate vs Tourer/Std, but Mustang makes one for all.  Not counting the King Boy Ultimate, the slab mount drivers backrests are interchangeable.  Mustang make a larger sissy pad than Ultimate. There is some difference in seat heights; lowboy an inch under stock (new stock, not 17yo stock), Bigboy an inch over stock.  Mustang stock or a bit taller.

I am a fairly large guy, 6'1" 385, I have an Ultimate King Big  boy and I am very happy with it. It moves me up and back and makes for a much more comfortable ride on my '98 tourer

I have a Mustang on both my Valks and like them been riding Mustang for 20 years.
Tried to ride a friends with an Ultimate for comparison and the nose of the ultimate makes it uncomfortatable for me as it doesn't leave room for the nut sack so to speak Shocked about a mile and had to get off that seat. I think it also is a bit softer than the Mustang but I prefer a stiffer seat.

Agree with Bighead.  Don't buy the Ultimate without trying it first.  That raised front is a well know problem for many people.  I have a mustang on both my bikes.

Comfort is good on both seats but I would think your height would be the biggest factor. I'm 6' 2" tall and have the King Big Boy on one of my bikes and a Mustang on the other. The Ultimate moves me up and back and it gives me a lot better riding position regarding my feet on the pegs.
Bottom line - if you're 6' 1" or taller, you will prefer the Ultimate.

The fact is seating is a very personal thing and what works for another might not be true for you and vice-versa.  I have had both Mustang and Ultimate Big Boy (still have).  The Mustang was more comfortable after break-in. After a couple hours I need to get off the Ultimate and walk around.  Not so with the Mustang. I'm 6 ft 280 31 inseam. The Ultimate looks better, I like the backrest better.  I suspect the Mustang pillion backrest is better with it's moved forward, wedge shape.  Sits the passenger on her ass instead of tailbone.  But I don't have an Ultimate pass. backrest. On the Big Boy, it crowds the "boys" but I can generally adjust them or my position.  I'm pretty comfortable, at least until a couple hours have passed, with feet up on the highway pegs, leaning back on the backrest, and with pullback risers.  I also want to get off the bike about every 2 hours anyway, on cross country rides.

I also had the stock seat which was good for about 20 minutes (98 std) and the Rood saddle mod, which was absolutely the best.  Not had a Russell, would love one, might get one for the wing.

BTW my Ultimate seat pan, it's not as sturdy as the other seats were.  I might have to strengthen it. I also modified the latch plate, installed a longer one.

I'd suggest, see if you can borrow friend's seats and take them on long rides.

'99 Tourer in Smoky Mt.

I purchased my '99 Valk Tourer with a mustang seat. I have traveled cross country several times to the North West on stock seats and was in pain within 60 miles and a 350 mile day was max on my prior bike(s). After purchasing my Valk with the Mustang seat the very next day I drove 750 miles and only stopped to eat and gas up the bike every 100 miles or so. I was shocked at how long I could ride with this seat. Not only did I travel 750 that day but completed the remainder of the 1200 miles over the next two days. I like the MUSTANG seat. Two weeks later, I undertook a trip from AZ to the Key West and back in 9 days. I believe the only way I could undertake that trip in that short or a time was because of the the seat and a great bike.
Four days ago I picked up a Honda Magna and it has a Mustang seat, a big factor in purchasing it.

Just to have a third option, the "newer" (post 2000 I think) Valkyrie seat is pretty good too.

I have all three and my go to seat is the ultimate.  The mustang is good also, just stiffer.

I started on the stock seat.

Got a 2000 seat.

Got a Mustang,

Got a Ultimate.

Got a Russell Day Long.

Sold the bike to my son and he prefers the Ultimate.

Your BUTT tells ya what to use for a saddle.

My choice is the Russell Day Long (and or) the Ultimate.

Great replies and I really appreciate each of you for offering your views. In summary: one really has to try each one before really understanding which is best suited, however one thing is clear, a OEM 1999 Valk seat is not one of the best.

Thanks again
