So I'm riding 2 up last Wednesday with my wife, out for a dinner run. We come to a major intersection and stop for the light. Light turns green and the guy on my left on a Harley ( we were both in the right lane) decides to take a hard right as I begin to go straight through the intersection.  Locked it up hard and down we go! I missed T boning him by inches. Lori got banged up pretty good and is still in pain with bruised ribs. I got a nice rash on the right arm but all in all we were very fortunate.

Thankfully we had our helmets on and were wearing long pants and boots. Thank goodness for the helmet. My head hit pretty hard and I actually felt the cushion compress and take the blow. I wouldn't have got up if I didn't have my lid on.

Damage: Windshield (F4), mirror, right driving light, right Baker Wings, engine guard (did its job!), right hard saddle bag -- lost a bunch of paint. The bike was about 10' away lying on it's side ooozin fuel. Once I checked on Lori I got it back up with one lift of pure adrenaline, waited 5 minutes and she started right up.

After the police and ambulance left (had them take my honey to the the hospital as a precation) I drove the fat girl home. I have started to source the parts, if any of you have surplus for sale let me know.

I'll post some pics once I re-learn how.

Oh yeah, the guy on my left is a friend of mine. He just didn't let me know he was going to turn.

Glad you survived it without any serious injury.  Be sure to toss out the helmets and get new ones, you shouldn't trust them once they take a hit.

Thanks, she should be fine in about a week or two. Bruised ribs take a while to heal. We're just thankful that it was not more serious.

Real sorry to hear that, glad none of the injuries are serious. Probably be sore for a while, that was a dumb move by your friend.

Also happy to hear no serious injuries.
Amazing to think a guy on your left would think it was okay to turn right, right through your driving lane. What the heck was he thinking?

What does the helmet look like?

Friends make mistakes, friends also forgive mistakes.  Have him pay for you two to take a rider course together and have some fun, never to late to brush up riding skills.

The Helmet. Interesting that you ask. It looks great, but I won't wear it again. As minimal as the crash was I did hit my head pretty hard. In fact I remember hitting and thinking, crap, this is not goint to be good. I actually felt the cushioning of the lid take the impact. Funny as it sounds it was like a slow motion replay as it happened. I remember hitting hard, feeling the "cushioning", getting up and thinking, hey, I'm good. Then I focused all of my attention on Lori. She banged up her ribs good and hard and was very verbal! Spectators, Ambualance + Police. It was a scene!

I thought of nothing else except her!

Just my recollection.

Where are you guys going? The bike is good, need a mirror to ride but all things considered it's all bolt on cosmetic. Mama is absolutely out, she is still hammered with rib pain. If I can sweet talk my way out of the house I will go for a run. Ok ok, I'm piping dreaming!

Thanks for all of the good vibes!

Gil, your observation is spot on. He is, and will always be my friend. This will not be a friendship ending event. Mistakes were made, feelings and muscles were hurt but in the end it's not worth trashing a long standing friendship. We have "had the conversation". Moving on, I will be sure to confirm the intentions and movements of anyone I ride along with. Lesson learned!~

Thanks,
Dan

Dan, we talked last fall at the pizza party, you were there at Jerry's .  Right ?
Been meaning to ask you did the belly tank pump keep running when she was down ? Or is it somehow off with the tip over sensor ? I have the belly tank on my Teal, so far I like it a lot.

Yes we were at Jerry's last fall. I honestly couldn't tell you if the pump was still running. Someone else turned off the key while I was attending to Lori. It did leak a alot of fuel but that may have been what was in the right bank of carbs. The bike was on it's side for quite some time.

No can do for today. The bike is still in the shop and I have a bunch of yard work needing to get done. Have a great, safe time, we will catch up on the next gathering.
