Ok I have a 97 standard. I am 6'4" tall and weigh about 215, my wife is a little heavier than I am. I want her to be able to ride with me but I afraid my shocks can't handle it. I have progressive shocks on my Valk and don't wanna do any damage to my bike any suggestions.

I'm 6' 2" tall and around 220 ish and I have a daughter that's heavier than me. On stock shocks and no apparent damage to my Valkyrie. NOT naming names but if you've been to an Inzane you ain't got nuttin to worry bout. Some folks 'healthier" than you and no issues. The weights listed for "safe" loading protect Honda. RIDE SAFE.

You should be safe as far as damaging your bike goes...

Unless you have 440s with heavy duty springs, your shocks
might not be up to performing well with two up...

I just bought my '98 Tourer from a larger couple; he installed the air shocks from a 'Wing, so he could adjust for the load. He also pulled a trailer, so another reason to pump it up.

I have a standard with 440 HD Progressives and weigh about 270 without my gear. My gf weighs a lot less than that, but I have had probably 200lbs of luggage on with her, between the bags and luggage rack for a week long trip. I had to bump the shocks up to #4 and it finished killing my Avon quicker than I expected, but the bike handled the weight just fine.

Swap your bike's shocks for a take-off pair from an I/S.

I'm about 240 at the moment and have had a 200lb passenger plus full saddlebags/trunk on my Tourer and never had an issue with bottoming the shocks out. Ditto when running the Interstates with their stock shock setups and heavier passengers.

Yep, what Bagger said. The quickest and easiest upgrade would be IS shocks, which is what I've done with good results.
